Hubs are what is discussed on ES primarily... but a good wheel is a function of the hub, rim and spokes all working seamlessly together. If any of the 3 is poor quality or mismatched the ride quality, braking, and longevity of the wheel suffers. I'm a bike guy... here to learn about motor and battery technology. So my question here has less to do about hubs and motors and more to do with Bicycle wheel components that match up well with the hub motors.

Sun Rhyno Lite (24"... maybe work on 559 forks?), a couple models of Velocity, and maybe one DT Swiss I've seen might be suitable for E-bike use. I'd like to know what people are using and/or if they are having success with no name kit components.

The Chinese Rims may or may not be good... there is no baseline for comparison as they are not well known in the cycling world. The same goes for spokes.

I'm familiar with Sapim, Phil Wood, and DT Swisw spokes. 13 Gauge seems to be the diameter of choice for hub motors. It's my understanding that direct drive will need a thicker spoke and shorter spoke (so they may be harder to find and have less selection).

The lighter geared hub motors while providing a lot more torque than more people could power on their own will still need a very strong spoke, but the options for cycling spokes seem to be more abundant.

I haven't seen any double butted which might be suitable with a geared hub but they might exist?

If you have having success with your kit wheels does it say a manufacturer of the spoke or rims? I have read about many Chinese rims being out of true upon arrival and the spokes being improperly seated and of incorrect length.

So the question is what rims and spokes are you successfully running for these types of wheels?

Direct Drive Wheels

1. Direct Drive with the larger hubs.
1-a. Your size of wheel
1-b. Are you using Disc or V Brakes
1-c. Are you running on the front or back wheel

Geared Wheels

2. Geared with smaller lighter hubs
2-a. Your size of wheel
2-b. Are you using Disc or V Brakes
2-c. Are you running on the front or back wheel
