I was reading an old thread and decided that 13 gauge spokes are what I need, but hopefully with larger nipples fo reh 19" motorcycle rim I just bought from Treatland.tv along witht a nice 2 x 19" moped tire.

I don't know the length yet....I want to use a shimano SLX hub.

got any ideas where to find them? I asked at the wheel smith company .. but I did not see any large nipples listed, nor were they made of brass....only aluminum. and johnrobholms is not selling custom spokes any longer.

You will probably have to call them. They have more sizes than you can find on the front page. 13g has a standard sized nipple. you'll have to use a nipple washer if the MC wheel is drilled bigger than 12g, but a lot of moped stuff is 12g.

Whats this wheel going on? Sounds cool.

I'm slowly beefing up my hand made cycle truck....hopefully will mount motor or two eventually. I mounted a very heavy duty 16 tire on the front 1.25" rim but the rear tire is not so beefy, well the rim is. should have gotten the 2.25 inch tire

now I am looking for a steel rear hub, I spotted a front steel hub at but no rear hub, got any ideas?http://custommotoredbicycles.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/046.4175008_std.JPG

Found a steel hub, but the width is only 126mm...http://www.niagaracycle.com/categor...-126mm-5-6sp?gclid=CIW9hPDow80CFY9hfgodWBQPXg

That is a very nice strong frame you built there. I should change my frame design for the next bike, if I ever actually build it. It will be a very strong long nose cargo bike with two motors.

Why steel hubs?

Most bike hubs are aluminum and don't rust.

Aluminum hubs also don't gouge into the spokes. They weigh less than steel hubs and are usually stronger and stiffer.

Before aluminum was a widely available metal, brass and bronze were both considered better materials for hubs than steel, because like aluminum they allow the bend of the spoke to bed into the flange, giving it some support at the point of highest stress.

The only steel hubs I'll use on purpose are coaster brake hubs and internal gear hubs.
