after seeing this thread above and gawking long enough at the excellent builds Oatnet puts together time after time I decided to give the fork mounted battery ago for myself. having not a lot of money I think I have managed to do my mount for very little moola only time will tell how wise this will be in the long run.

my mounts consist of 4 triple clamp scooter clamps from ebay which came in at about £14 delivered, some alu angle iron which was about £5, 12x m5 10mm flat head bolts £3 (B&Q)
4x m6 bolts with nordlock nuts (had them lying about) and an old ikea chopping board (also lying about)
sum total = £22

The rationale behind the chopping board was to make it easy to adapt the mount to when I upgrade the battery, I plan to do a pelicase lipo battery with a fetcher 4.4 zephyr bms (got the parts just need the time) currently the battery is very easy to remove which It wasn't when I had it mounted upright behind the seat post.

The battery is a Golden motor limn and it weighs about 5kg so getting the weight central was really important. anyway here are some pictures to go with my thousand words.

CWah look at this frame? Where else would you put a cuboid battery like this, I used to have it on the seat post but that really makes the rear shock useless. Anyway if you read the link at the top you might gain some insight into the handling you're worried about. Also on the DIY front you may have noticed the ragged edge under the chop board that's because I didn't have a large saw so instead I drilled about 50 4mm holes and went at it both sides with a junior saw still gets the job done.

A) as you've pointed out there is already a battery there
B) it's too wide for inbetween the cranks.

It was kinda mixed, it's the traditional sliding plate you get with the golden motor box batteries problem was to take it off the bike you needed to take the seat off the stem. That was a pain so mostly I'd charge it on the bike. The main reason for moving it was the weight. I would say though if I find a cheap source to buy an identical can I might fill that with lipo so some ultimate long range solution. Or when I get my pelicase for the lipo on the front, put the battery back on the rear. For now I'm enjoying the rear suspension travel I have back.

Made a duplicate mount for my girlfriends norco team race. took sooo long. Mainly cause I don't have enough of the right tools and the ones I have are spread between two locations. anyway pics to follow. A step closer to couples ebiking. just need some better weather too.
