I have a Crystalyte HS3540 rear hub motor but when riding the bike the motor is pretty loud compared to my old X5304 motor. The 5304 was near silent when riding the bike whereas this HS3540 can be heared by all people standing near me when I ride by...

I have been in contact with ebikes.ca about this and they told me this is normal because I'm using a trapesoidal controller. It should be more silent with a sinusoidal controller.

So I wonder what controller you guys use with your HS motors? I got this one from Crystalyte Europe when I bought the HS3540 motor from them: http://shop.crystalyte-europe.com/product.php?productid=16530&cat=272&page=1

I'm just careful on the throttle when there are people around ;)

running a modded 18FET infineon with HS3540 @ 74v pulling 6KW max but mostly i run around 25-30km/h without much noise consuming only 250Watts in case the cops show up

i see that you are also from Belgium, are you using your bike as a scooter or do you pretend to ride a 250W pedelec like me?

don't think that a sinusoidal controller will be worth the cost tho, haven't seen an ebike shop around here that sells the high power ones (i do have to say that I've never used a sinusoidal controller so can't really tell the difference in sound)

Sine controllers are supposed to produce less noise. On a side-note, what speeds are you able to get at 6kw and 74v!?

I don't know about what controller you use, but I use Lyen 18FETs controller similar to the infineon controller and it is near silent at all speeds. At low speed, I do hear a low pulsing noise, but it is hardly audible. At high speed, I hear nothing but the wind.

I suspect it might be something else and not your controller.

DD motor should be near silent.

I am using the HS3545. Slightly faster wind. It shouldn't matter much. I even used the Crystalyte sensor less controller with similar results with jerkier start because it is a sensor less controller. But the motor sound is still like the Lyen controller.

Maybe I should get another controller just to try and see if the noise is gone with it. I might have received a broken one or something... The noise is pretty load actually, people can hear clearly that I'm riding an electrical bike.

Anyone here can confirm if the newer HS/HT motors should be as silent as the older 40X or X5 models?
