Technically, wood is a very popular RENEWABLE building product, unlike, *ahem* 'those' oil products that make such a mess. What's so bad about it, and why would anyone 'green' minded knock it over highly energy dependant and/or non-renewable material?

Don't knock it; my battery case is wooden, too, though I don't have a phone connection to it. (and the "meter" is on the handlebars, in the CA)
