Wye and Delta have anyone seen the new KIA 9 motor that can switch between Wye and Delta?

This seems like it would be great for a dirt bike, use Wye configuration when you need torque and Delta when you need horsepower. It would be like having two speeds without a gearbox.

Pretty sure it can't actually do this. It would not make sense to lay out the power stage like this. Looks like 2 seperate motors and inverters in the same...motor...

I might be wrong though. But I think Munro are wrong here.

Here's the patent for how it really works. It's not just two inverters driving the same motor, it's cleverer than i thought... It's star switching to individual coil driving.

This individual coil driving is how stepper motors are driven. It's old as the hills. Combining it with a star configuration might be new but it's not clear that that's dramatically better...
