I just replaced the anderson connections on my 52V battery with XT-90S connectors. Everytime I connect them I am hearing a loud pop like a spark is occuring. Obviously I cant actually see it the way they are designed. Is this sound normal? I am thinking I may have overheated the connector when soldering and wrecked the resistor?

when connecting your battery to the controller?
yes this is normal-its just the controller capacitors filling with a large inrush current.
its not really good for them and it will wreck your connectors in time so try to minimise doing it, or build a pre-charge circuit.

Yes the XT-90S is connector with built-in anti spark function, but it was designed up to 6s Li-poly (24V) for modellers. So there is used i think 5,6 Ohm resistor and this value is just too low for anti spark protection of voltages above 24V. So for use with 52V battery it's better than wire in the eye but... It will work well If there is possibility to replace it to 33 Ohm value.
