I too am building up an Alpha and looking for battery options. Other than custom are there any off the shelf batteries than slot in?. All the ones on aliexpress seem too big for the 330 x 118x 163 frame compartment.

    3.7v vs 4.2v

I have also been trying to find those tattu lipo batteries, especially the big 22000mah, but didnt want to run the risk of a dud pack. I'd be interested to see how they fair, but agree, run at 18s 4.1-4.15V

    LiPo Surgery Time!

Just throw it in the bin. Its not worth the hassle for $40-50 a pop. I had one cell fall off the face of the earth....i couldnt even get it to register via the balance taps or a multimeter. Currently sitting in a bucket of salt water

    Next steps for Scooter Project

I'm currently doing the same (in Aus too). Hub motor will be a QS273 (22kg thing), Batteries in the form of Lipo. (this will be your most $$$ component). Controller just a china spec 72v 80amp thing. Will create a build thread later

    E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Find a decent set of totems, Marzocchi 66 or Fox 36s. Chuck a seal kit if buying used and you will be far better off compared to a RS domain edit: You said basic so domains probably the ticket.
