I am looking to build a fast and lightweight ebike. There is a new mid-motor being developed by Bikee Bike in Italy that promises high performance at low weight. (see link below) I don't have much experince with motors so its hard for me to have any opinion, but the claimed specs look great.

What do people think of this lightweight motor being sold on Indiegogo?

Power: 1000w
Torque: 90nm
Mass: 1.6kg

It looks physically small for the stated size at 750-1000w. Overly proprietary In design with built in controller could leave you in their hands if there’s a issue down the road. I’d let the people who have purchased it be your test as to what’s to come for this little motor. It’s specifications may not be over rated and we may have become accustomed to this where a 1000 watt motor may actually produce 2-3 times that. It may not provide enough power to make you happy.

It's not available yet so any options would just be breezy speculation.

Tom:
Thank you for that link!
Just the information I was looking for. I searched for Bikee with no results; Hence this duplicate post.

Maybe the original post title in the link should include "Bikee" for easier searching?

If it fits my recumbents, i'm sold on it.. it fixes all the issues that have prevented me from running a mid drive.

Good:

1) Drive system transmits power via a standard bike chain.
2) Seems like a quiet drive mechanism, based on the video of it pulling a van.
3) Great continuous wattage per lb, even if this is overstated.. goes head to head with the CYC Pro X1/X2.
4) Doesn't create an offset on one side of the pedals - my biggest gripe with mid drives.
5) Small addition to the width of the bottom bracket means the chainline will be close to stock :).
6) Easily compatible with many different BB widths.
7) Decent pricing!
8) ASI controller on the 1000w model and screen/controls are awesome.
9) Can order custom sprocket sizes and adjust drive to crank ratio for ideal cadence.

Bad:

1) Not the most clean looking, But this may improve with the chain guard option.
2) Solidness of the mount/casing is TBD - plastics make me a bit nervous when it comes to long term reliability.
3) Very low room for hot rodding, although this is pretty common for optimized and light designs. Get a CYC Pro X1/X2 if you want >1000w.

This is close enough to an ideal mid drive to me.. i'll personally be picking up at least one.

Some "company history" that may be useful:

There may be others I didn't see.

Thanks for the blast to the past, AW.

Matteo handled himself pretty damn professionally considering the shit he got. Some vendors don't even come back when they get that kinda reception here. I can tell he learned a lot during the process... that's reflected in the design of this drive.. it's more than a generational leap :thumb:

ps, i've retitled this thread so that it reflects the proper name of the drive so we don't confuse this with the old drive.

I'm allergic to crowd funds, but will be really interested if it gets off the ground and they start selling on a "buy it now, get it now" basis.
