Hi everyone, after playing about with my electric bicycle for a number of years I decided to get a a electric moped, I was in need of a new battery for more speed anyway and a moped wasn't much more than a new lithium battery so I have a 2000 w lithium moped sitting in my garage, trouble is the insurance quotes I'm getting are very high, £250 which is as much as my car, are there any UK insurers I could ring for a cheaper price? Thanks for any input

The chap has bought a commercially produced moped, a bonefide motor-vehicle that requires third-party liability insurance to ride on the road, and you guys tell him he either doesn't need insurance or should buy a bicycle?

Chap, I can't recommend any insurers, but I wonder if your quotes are high simply because 'peds are expensive to insure and what you're seeing is a normal quote. Are any of the insurers prepared to mirror any no-claims bonus you may have on another vehicle?

UK laws on electric bikes.

I'm after people's recommendations for good electric moped insurers in the UK, the people who insured my 50cc moped (swinton bikes) were very expensive,

Aquote or rampdale for emax mopeds I hear they specialise a little

Just insured my Emax110s with mce £220

I have just insured my converted Honda MT50 - which is now classed as an electric moped.
I tried loads of insurers and MCE were the only ones who could quote (£180).

If your bike is unmodified you could give PlugInSure a phone and see what they say.
