Eurobike 2014 thread

Hi guys, I think this would be SUPER awesome to pull off and have a European meetup of ES members. It's going to be my first time attending eurobike as well so I'm excited to see what'll be on the showroom floor in terms of new ebike technology. Currently I'm in France right now with my lovely girlfriend on our electrified brompton bikes, and we should have them with us up at the eurobike show from Aug 27th - Aug29th.

It's not clear yet if we'll be staying for the 30th as well which is the open-to-public day though. Would it make sense for people to meet up during the show itself or afterwords somewhere in Friedrichshafen and go on an ebike ride or social outing together?

XiongDa (Bonnie and her father - who actually is the inventor of the 2-speed hub motor) will be on the EUROBIKE 2014 as well, as she told me:

"We don't have our own booth, We will be in LEVA's booth FW-OG103 which is located at the West Foyer, the Mezzanine overlooking the main West entrance.
We have double-speed motors to show and bike to ride.
Maybe people can contact me by skype: xiongdamotor and my mail: xiongdamotor@outlook.com"

I usually get into contact with Bonnie under bonnie@xiongdamotor.com.cn just in case, the above mentioned email adress may not work.

For all the ES members that can bring their bilkes, I strongly recommend to reserve a sunny day for a ride along the Bodensee for example also visiting Lindau, Konstanz, Reichenau, Bregenz, the Swiss water side or whatever.
:)

And most important of all - share a looooot of pictures here

Hey so very cool, nice find again Miles and it looks like they got themselves a singled sided axle version of the Crystalyte 'G' series motor
Singledsided G series.jpg

There seems to be a lot more original ebike technology and engineering on exhibit at the euroshow than I've seen in the previous Interbike and Taipei events, where they often had a lot of stylized bikes but powered via well known run-of-the-mill electric drive systems.

Since not everyone in europe is likely following this thread, are there people who are active in some of the german, french, italian etc. ebike groups that could also post this on their sites to solicit other DIY ebike enthusiasts attending eurobike who'd be stoked for a meetup and rendez-vous at the show? It'd be neat to pull together a small crowd if we could.

I am registered and known on the German and French forums, most of them also speak English (due to the internet and movies/TV), so should I just link them to this thread? several ES members are already active on the UK forum, so that's covered...

Just for laughs:

a smaller German forum http://www.elektrofahrrad-einfach.de/forum/

For amusement, you can use Google Translate, or just scan through the pics. Too many blogs to list, these are just the E-bike forums, the Aussies and Brits seem to be more active in ES than local forums, and the French/German/Russian ones listed are the most active "non English-speaking".

Well, you know....I will be there.....and knowing that you will be there too is another big reason to don't miss the show this year!
I'll post a Link to the Italian Forum.....for sure.

à bientôt

Hey yeah, if you could do that spinningmagnets it'd be great. Just a note that we're trying to see if there are enough DIY ebike people attending the show to have a small meetup.

Sweet. I'll look forwards to meeting up with you in any case even if it's just the two of us for now :)

I dunno, I think you need tights and a cape (and a ripped form) to really pull off the superman stance

Just visited with Jean-Pascal of OZO electric bikes in southern France at their new expanded shop,

He rocks conversion kits in this part of the world and will be heading up to Eurobike tomorrow as well, so the small party is growing!

I'm in Zurich which is roughly 100km away... the predictions are for rain and bad weather in general this weekend so a fun tour..well..

We're now huddled at a campsight in switzerland waiting for a break in the rain too. This really does put a damper on ebike touring plans, especially when you have a few weeks worth of luggage to tow which you want to keep dry. I think it's off to a hertz rent-a-car for us next

In Friedrichshafen it looks like there is hope for Thursday at least!
Friedrichshaven weather.jpg

Should we make thursday the 28th as the tentative meetup day? It's forecast to then start raining again after that.

Good luck at Eurobike, hope the weather changes for the better!

Wish I was attending but looking forward to any photos and tech details E-S members can get while on site 8)

Yes, weather is terrible....so , I think to postpone My arrival to the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
My family wont go with so much rain and my buddies too, so I think I'll be alone this time... :(
so Thursday and Friday are the days for a meetup...The night of Friday there's a Party all night long into the main spaces of the show and most exhibitors dismount everything before the party ....than, Saturday the show is open to the public... but with less than half of the stuff to see...

Well we were just in Burgdorf to check out the Speedped factory that makes 45 kph S-pedalec bikes. I thought we'd arrived at the wrong address because here is what a Swiss ebike manufacturing business looks like from outside, recently converted from a 100+ year old grain mill:
SpeedPed Factory Outside.jpg
This country is amazing.

Inside, the small team manufacture and assemble all their own custom motors, battery packs, and belt drive transmission to run upwards of 750 watts through a shimano alphine hub, with clever sensor system to momentarily disengage the motor drive whenever the shifters are engaged.
Inside Speedped Factory.jpg

Anyways, now we are about 20km from the ferry that that goes across the lake to Friedrichshafen and are waiting for a break in the downpour before biking on over.

I'll try to get a german SIM card and mobile number once we arrive and will post it here to help coordinate.

Just remember that with heavy rains there's lots of flooding especially in central switzerland

Lots of very beautiful waterfalls in full bloom too, so there is an upside :D
