Hi everyone!

First of all i want to give the thanks for everybody who participate in this forum, I have been in the shadows reading this forum for a long time and I have don't need to ask nothing because every question that i have has been yet asked and answered before in this forum.

I just want to present my ebike, and offer my help if somebody needs something from myself, data, experiencie, riding stats, or any else.

The bike than I have converted to and ebike is a Ghost ASX 5100 of 2012. At the begining I choosed a GNG gen2 kit with a Lyen 12 fet controller. I have to say than the bike never go so well, this is because I overvolted the motor from the begining and it ends for get burned. :( a good lesson than only the experience (or the fault off) can give.

Until the GNG gets burning, the most problem with the kit was the noise, is imposible be stealth with this mid drive, but it has good torque for its size and weigth.

My second, and actually, motor is a Crystalyte HS4080, I bought it from the Patrick's store http://fasterbikes.eu/index.php, and the seller was very fast and very comunicative, also with a good discount versus crystalyte europe. The store is new, but all works perfectly, also patrick gives me a free throttle. :)

Here i have to make a little break, i bought the motor itself, not mounted in a rim, and this is not should be done by people like me without experience mounting wheels. Really, don't do it without experience, i have to mount and remount more than 10 times before it gets pefectly rounded.

The lenght of the spokes, was bought from fasterebikes.eu, doesn't fit to my wheel and at the end i had to buy them from aliexpress to this seller

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Electric-bicycle-12G-168mm-spokes-E-bike-2-6mm-diameter-45-Steel-Spoke-nipples-37pcs-lot/988446530.html

The 168 lenght fits perfectly.

In energy matters, I have used 4 x 8 amps 5 cells Zippy lipo bought from hobbyking, two of the batteries gets inflated in the first use, but hobbyking send me new ones with no extra cost, really great costumer service.

For wear in the ebike i have use a 110mm PVC tube, than i have cuted a window and I attached to the bike with some screws, the same way to the controller.

All the system is controlled by an Cycle Analyst, what to say about it, just give the thanks for the "unoficial guide". Just a little scare with the taxes :(

Sorry for all the bored writing, just i´m going to put some images, than I supousted better than the words.

Here is the bike itself, sorry but i dont have any pictures without motor.

Sorry for my very bad english, i'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of info, if anyone want any more pictures or data just tell me.

Best regards :)

Nice projects....how did the middrive compare to the hub in feel and in their riding. Which did you prefer?

I'm looking into using the Crystalyte 4080 rear hubs on a couple of X-Tidalforce ebike Montague folding frames.

Thanks.

Hi Kauaikit thanks for your answer.

For be the more specific I will make a subjetive pros and cons table.

GNG mid drive

Pros:

- Weight : it´s a really light weight kit and is centered in the bike, this improves a lot de bike driving.

- No lag pedaling: If the motor is turned off, the bike works very well as a bike, without any resitance (just a little for the battery and motor weight)

- Motor: Is very powerfull for the size, works well at high rpm.

- Cheap: for 300€ (400 USD) you get all the parts in your house.

Cons:

- Noise: The kit was really noise, more than i expected, this is important if you are going to use in a city, no matter if you are going to use it offroad.

- Torque: The motor can't pull you if you are using low relations. The motor doesn't works well at low rpm, for that if you need speed, you have to gear the highest relaction, and this mean than you can't pedaling at 15 or 20 km/h (12 mph)

- Bike changes: Is necessary constanly changing the bike gears to get some nice ridding (not necessary a cons)

-Heat: The kit become really hot when is overvolted, I use the kit with 72V at 30Amps with a Lyen controller. I modified the motor and I included a temp sensor, was common 100ºC after 10-15 min of use.

-Autonomy: I used 8 Amps 20s1p battery configuration, with the GNG i was able to make arround 25-30 km (15 - 18 miles)

- Mechanical complexity: The kit need 3 chains and a lot of mobile parts, after ever riding is neccesary check everything. The parts that come with the kit are very weak and low quality, need to upgrade.

Pros:

Torque: the motor have a lot of torque, you can start riding without pedaling, and is able to climb 20% grade without problems. You can use it as a motorbike.

- Autonomy: With the same battery configuration, i'm able to make more than 50 km (31 miles) without problems (in normal use and pedaling)

- Noise: I love that silence, you can be very stealth in the city.

- Mechanical simplicity: Just a motor connected to the controller, just it. No mechanical headache.

- Stealth looking: looks like a normal bike.

- Normal temp: I use the 10k temp sensor and it`s rare go up of 80ºC in normal use.

Cons:

- The weight: The motor is really heavy, and for offroad use or downhill could be a problem. Also if you have to carry in a car.

- Lag pedaling: If you run out the batteries you will have problems for come back to your house if you are far away.

- Torque arms: Is neccesary if you are going to handle hight watts.

In my opinion:

I love the 4080 + CA instead the GNG, is esay to install and also powerfull, hight autonomy and very silence. Actually I use the 4080 with 3 presets:

- 5 amps

- 15 amps

- 25 amps

And with the 15 amps (1200W) is enought for a very good ridding.

Hope to help you.

Best regards.:)

At Eurobike 2014 I saw montague paratrooper and a montague x70 with an amazing electric / bike kit. the standard kit was Onroad / Offroad, 70kmph - was just fantastic.

They are not available yet via retail channels but it is possible to buy. Given the pedigree of these guys and the fact that they already make the best downhill ebikes and they even hold world records - this is one to watch.

Looks cool and sure it performs well but looks heavy. Mine was relatively light and still not that easy to fold/handle. At least for me.
