I agree with Methods, we should all calm down and wait and see. The best tacticians only move when they have to and when the opportunity presents itself a la Otto Von Bismarck.
Patience is key here.
If the forum does have to relocate - there are some pressing issues that have to resolved.

You can plan for unforeseen circumstances. Having something in an individual's name tied into another company is not the wisest course of action to take. People die, business go under...etc.
It would be far more sagacious to set up a legal body, a LTD company or co-op with a proper board - with a clause that individual board members can only spend x amount of years before they have to retire to be replaced by new board members. You could have a strict memorandum of association and a set quorum with a qualified majority that members have to adhere to - with a guide to who can form part of that quorum.
The more that is set in stone and legal - the better off everyone will be.
However, all of this should be a last resort. Let's wait and see first.

With absolutely no disrespect to the whiz kids here, I'd like to know what The dogman thinks about all this.
I have been around since the VisforV days and have mostly figured out how to set up a decent ebike. Because of this I now only read the threads about the new or hard to do stuff. (AKA "whiz kid posts").
People like dogman (12k+ posts) do the real work on this forum, answering time after time, the same questions that always seem to come up. the smart EE types are vital, but so are the people who do the grunt work with the newbs like I was just a while back.
Anyway, this all is starting to piss me off. It's been a while, and has never been wise, but I'm going for a couple shots of Jagermeister, a big beer and a few different types of totes than my sig. talkes about.
I'll be back...

I have finally finished reading the thread up to this point and I've got to say I am sad, angry and basically stupefied that the forum was handed over without a damn word of warning to the members or anyone for that matter.
I am fully behind the Methods, Justin_le, LFP, AJ, Bigmoose, Fetcher, etc etc faction. I'll be backing up my own contributions, meager as they are, and waiting to see what the weather brings.
TO THE NEW "OWNER(s)":
Apparently you've had the idea of "the next level" of things so heavily imprinted on your brain that you've moved on your plan without considering anything else but what the forum "can be."
Let me state this as loudly and clearly as possible:
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS FORUM ACTUALLY IS.
Your multiple vague posts point many of us to the conclusion that you have read so little on this forum that you've missed what the folks on Top Gear call the "X Factor" about this site. We love this forum for a few simple reasons and your every move has threatened to destroy those (already embedded) features. You'd have had a better welcome here had you gone through the proper channels. The proper channels being becoming a member, reading and actively posting questions, building relationships and generally becoming known.
This was an impulsive buy, now you must live with the consequences of the impulse. Negotiate with those mentioned above and you might get out of this with money back on your investment.
As for Andy, I do not value your input. Trevor should have been the one to explain the situation, and because he has held things tightly to the chest and given us literally NO information about his actual plans (no details have been posted at all), he has to suffer the fallout from this no BS community. Also, you didn't invest in this so you literally have no say.
*edit* Not speaking to Andy's sites since I don't know 1st hand what he owns...
THE SADDEST thing about all this is that the newbies who will flood this forum, if/when the core members (and even the medium-level people who can point newbies to the experts or relevant articles) will be gone, will NOT EVEN KNOW that something this open-source and commercialism-free ever existed....
