Sturmey-Archer 5-speed hub, it's real!

Apologies if this is out of place but I just thought it may be useful:

I have been using and Alfine 8 with my Astro 3220 Tangent kit for a month or so now and all is well still...

What kind of watts are you pulling through that 3220? And what final gearing?

Cycle analyst is set to 6000 but what the peak phase amps are Ii couldn't be sure but probably up at about 8-10k for split seconds when off roading.

Chainring 38 rear sprocket 17 tooth I think....

How is your hub holding up?

Still going strong, it's in a new much heavier build and seems ok but then my batteries are on their last legs and I'm barely pulling 2k watts peaks.

The Tangent only puts out roughly human levels of torque but at higher rpms.

New batteries will see how much it can really take.

Hey guys,
I have a Sturmey Archer rx-rk5 hub. Bought new, but it does not run very smooth; the gear change is good but when pedalling backwards (it's a disk hub) instead of a nice and smooth feel it's quite gritty and it stops the wheel (eventually).
Is this a normal behaviour? Or should I check something? I made some searches but nothing so far, hope this means it's reliable.

Video ? Are you sure you installed the drive unit correctly ?

This shouldn't be it, but disconnect the caliper, in case it's dragging when reverse rotation (even if it's clear forward).

Otherwise perhaps the shifter is moving a bit when reversing rotation, and causing the gears to be partially shifted, so it ends up locking up the hub?
