BLDC controllers for bicycles are pretty cheap and the low cost versions start at roughly 35€. However, when the second such controller ceased operation while I was in the middle of nowhere (ugghh, 100% bio-biking all the way back), I decided it was time to dig into the inner workings of these little gems and create my own.
Thus project contains:
* an open hardware BLDC controller based on an Atmega 328
* it can power up to 1000W
* has bluetooth
* and connectors for hall sensors, brakes, pedal assist and throttle
Plus
* an Android app with cool hacker features
* a cloud service to share the data
Creating a BLDC controller from scratch is an fascinating journey and if you are interested then follow the project.
