CYC Photon Gen 2?

What I would like to see is CYC offering an adapter to offset a 42t just a bit so it will fit in more frames. It wouldn't have to be 9.5mm like for the 32/34t. Maybe 3 or 4mm would work? I hate how bike mfgs have all glommed onto this idea of tiny chainring pockets as if they can't conceive that someone might have a different use case and not want to be locked into a 32, 34, or 36t. There really is no reason except maybe for how it looks.
 
Efficiency?

Can anybody compare the real world efficiency of the Photon and the Gen 2, preferably using as many similar factors as possible - ideally same frame and battery?

photon v2 2k watts battery hold less than 200 meters

1700 watts battery and motor holds
I never had a motor thermal throttle

photon v2 is way better to manage temperature

MTB's are limited to 32-36T for good chainline because of the short chainstays and tire clearance. Fitting a 36T on mine required 10mm spacers, a 42T would require much more.
 
The chainline itself isn't the issue, it is how they sculpt the right chainstay to make the indent for the ring. All they would need to do is carry the indent a few mm more to the rear of the stay to make it big enough to accommodate larger rings. It probably varies from bike to bike just how much offset you would need to fit a 40t of 42t ring. We had one poster here who put a 42t on a Photon Gen 2 installed on a Banshee Phantom FS MTB. I never saw the detail how he did that.

And I easily fit the 42t with photon Gen 1 on my older school hardtail MTB with 68mm BB. It even took a 50t and I tried that for awile, but I found the 42t to be a better overall choice.

The problem for me with these new school MTBs is for an e-bike build the 42t on an 8-speed drivetrain with 11/34 cassette would be the way to go to have plenty of climbing power for my use and reasonable top end for the flats and downhills. To get similar with a 36t chainring would require a 12-speed setup with the 9t small cog... but that would also come with the 51t big cog which along with a couple of the other big cogs would be totally useless for me with e-assist.
