CYC Photon Gen 2?

how do you attach the gigigo to your handlebar ? the mounting option seems odd for an ebike
this setup i have for my pod lights and stem could work, you might need to attach longer flat brackets if the gigigo2s mount is too wide. i suggest using proper spacers, not stacking like me https://a.co/d/b5bMl4D 1772108803360.png1772108867234.png
 
Sorry for asking, but the Photon has a light output? I could not find any info about that in any documentation?

Nice, funny how their initial datasheet had 0 mentions of this. Lets see when/if I need to replace my current BBS02, it is at 9000km and ticking, lets see how far I can push it :)

I dont understand because the harness that came with the photon 2 has only 2 out. So screen and throttle. The speed sensor is on another connector on the controller
also then how do i connect shift sensors ? or brake sensors ? where even on which harness connections ?

Also there are 0 infos on differences between the 1T harnessesssss

You can make a pretty good guess that 1T3 means the two (display and throttle) + headlight, then the 1T5 is the same and adds 2 brake sensors

You almost certainly don't need them - neither would I recommend brake sensors. The system is torque sensing, and is very responsive. Shifting is never a problem without sensors.

"torque sensing" That's something that could launch me off of a safe curb into heavy traffic. No.
Used to setting my pedals.
I did that couple times with..BBS02. yeah, that'll kill ya. Do not recommend.
It's pedal and throttle for me.

you'd have to sacrifice a brake sensor port. but i dont use brake or shift sensors, i had them on the bbshd, decided i didnt need them

it's not just torque sensing it has a cadence start option. either way, it can run on, in that case turn down your sensitivity. genuinely never been an issue for me

You don't know what you don't know. This is nothing at all like the BBS (I have ridden both). BBS is cadence sensing, not torque sensing so there really is no comparison. Make no mistake, the dangers of a sudden start using cadence sensing are very real, but the Photon is absolutely OK. You can set your pedals easily, the bike won't move.

Hopefully that's all not gonna go and the throttle will with the one I have.
I did clip all the wires and am gonna caulk them up. Halls too, DGAF.
I just got the soldering iron, so yeah, that's tomorrow for dry-fitting and testing.
Phase wires on TSDZ8 are so short, I'm gonna solder wires right to the clip terminals and not cut them back at all.
Zero wiggle room, if you ask me.

Oh the correlation as to what I'm boogering up tomorrow and the CYC Photon is the torque sensing stuff.
Now I get it. I never claimed to be the sharpest marble in the bag.

The gear sensor is useful, it’s a safety net like the brake sensors. But the photon pas is good enough and as long as you don’t tune it aggressively it’s fine. I didn’t think I needed one because on an analog bike I always ease off and ease back into the pedaling to shift, which you have to do here as well even with a shift sensor, so that 0.6-0.8 off switch from the sensor seemed redundant. It’s more for if you miss time it or the motor runs on for whatever reason

That's being a bit dramatic. A decent, properly adjusted derailleur system will be absolutely fine even if you shift under power. If you ride normally you will back off before shifting anyway, and the Photon is very good in this respect.

Modern integrated systems (like Avinox) go even further, and can shift while coasting, but for what it is the DYI add on like Photon still work pretty well.
 
Did anyone ever tried to intercept the data from CYC to the app ? I need to try to do it myself to see what can be exposed. I really wished there were shortcuts on IOS and also that the intuition screen could have options hidden.
I wish it was possible to make it looks like my motor was peaking at 750w and that the speed limit was 25kmh which is the limit where i live and that i respect but i also use it on private land and there i just unleash itttt. Idk having a restrictive preset mode would be really cool
 
nearly 1k mile wear update, fairly heavy stress testing. Gears are perfectly fine (looks misshapen but it’s just grease), but the grease went bad likely much earlier at around 600 miles, when i started experiencing issues like higher noise levels, and sudden drive loss and scratchy noise (to be fair a little debris in the shaft and chainring area likely contributed to drag). View attachment 384388I would honestly recommend checking factory grease before 500 miles. Grease looks like gruel and will be replaced with new molykote br-2 plus

PS: removing the chain guard is tough after not removing it a while, even though i removed it fairly recently to regrease. the chainring adapter is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to remove. Doesn’t really matter what tool you have because the wheel rotates all the same when trying to remove it, need really strong determination, and possibly a heat gun and mallet and vice grip

There is some pretty good documentation on the CYC website - in their Knowledgebase. Unfortunately nothing much for the Gen 2 Photon at this stage. https://www.cycmotor-support.com/knowledge/article/271 grease types for the Gen 2 will be similar most likely.

There are also some disassembly videos on their YouTube channel.
