Trucks on their own routes lightweight, elsewhere.

Without trucks our economy shuts down. The things you want to buy come on trucks. Come bitch about trucks after you've lived that life for a few months and hauled some freight. I have, did it for five years and now I train drivers. Yes there are some idiot truck drivers out there, but that...

    Build check- Mercier Mini Velo

Nice Moulton Jonathan! Thanks for the input. Good suggestion on the Thudbuster, and pretty much what I was thinking along with a suspension stem if the ride ends up being too harsh. Wheelie machine is actually kind of what I'm hoping for  I mean just because I'm commuting doesn't...

    Build check- Mercier Mini Velo

I've been going back and forth a lot on what I want to build. Some of this is a product of the Ebike learning curve and some due to the fact that I'm waiting for that quarterly bonus check from work to get here. Anyway, I think I finally have my vision sorted out and would like to hear what...

    Any eBikers from OKC, OK?

I'm from Tulsa and I don't have an ebike yet, but here in a couple months hope to put one together. My folks live in Bethany so I'm down there occasionally. Maybe we can meet up sometime.

Throttle solution for drop bars / road bikes with Arduino

Nice! and also nice to see someone working on this niche. What if instead of mounting the buttons to the hoods, you put the buttons on the fingertips of your gloves. That way you could move your hands around and still have control. If you went really fancy and did it through Bluetooth then you...

    LBS Thrust and Acceleration

Mad RESPECT to you spinningmagnets, but using lbs/thrust I can mathematically approximate a 0-??mph. As a guy that regularly destroys 500hp Corvettes with a 40hp shifter kart, I get power to weight. What I don't know is and maybe a better question from me is, for an ebike what would be...

    LBS Thrust and Acceleration

What do you guys consider nice acceleration and how does that equate to lbs/thrust? Of course the weight of rider and bike is going to be a factor, but If we ignore that, can you guys quantify what numbers we would see for: mehhh, nice, well ok, heh heh, oh heck yeah, and Millennium Falcon...

    Universal throttle?

Thanks for the laugh drunkskunk. The reason I want this is because there are all sorts of nice handlebars with various hand positions and other than going full PAS, I haven't seen a solution that addresses this. The ability to have the throttle follow your hand might work nice. Think about a...

    Universal throttle?

Why not a throttle that can fit any handlebar or hand position? I'm thinking some kind of air bulb coupled to a piezioelectric switch thing-amabob doo-hicky. Could be strapped anywhere on the bar, attached to a glove, held in your teeth, shoved up your bum, whatever suits your fancy. Is this an...

    How does it feel/work?

Wasn't sure how to search for this. When you combine motor power with leg power, how does that work or feel? Let's say I'm cruising along with no pedaling at 20mph and then I start to pedal without changing my throttle setting and reach 25mph. Effort wise is that going to feel like I'm...

    Yescomusa Bulk Charger 30V-5A?

So get the 10A version for 300W http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-30V-10A-110V-Precision-Variable-DC-Power-Supply-Digital-Adjustable-Dual-LED-/350975229061?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51b7c0fc85 Math says 12s 10ah pack could be charged in 2 hours. That is unless I'm missing something. More...

    Yescomusa Bulk Charger 30V-5A?

I have been looking into bulk charging and stumbled across this http://www.ebay.com/itm/30V-5A-110V-Precision-Variable-DC-Power-Supply-w-Clip-Cable-Digital-Adjustable-/300882516942?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item460dfedbce There is also a 10 amp version. Seems like it would be a nice option...

    WOW! Brain overload.

Thanks Wes, that's what I needed to hear. I'm building a commuter so I should consider reliability first. I hadn't thought of the LVC. I had thought of only charging to 4.1V to keep the total volts under the controller limit. All evidence points to 12s being adequate for my needs, but where I...

    WOW! Brain overload.

Sorry, I should have clarified that I was talking about RC Lipo. I appreciate your concerns and passion for what you do. I think it will be a great day when we reach that tipping point where EV's are popular enough that the market is flooded with inexpensive quality choices that meet the varying...

    WOW! Brain overload.

Search doesn't work on 3 letter terms. Yescomusa 48V/1000W kit. Plan is for 12s, but of course I'm wondering if I'm going to regret that I didn't go with 15s. My goal is a commuter operating in the 20-30mph range and I'm not looking for an all out speed demon, but... If the motor and...

    WOW! Brain overload.

Wow! Now I have too much time on my hands. Am I going to be satisfied with 12s? Now I'm thinking I might want to bump up to 15s. What does everyone think, worth it, not worth it, if my goals haven't changed?

    WOW! Brain overload.

Well you guys were a big help. I think I've got a handle one what I want and some options that will get me there. Lately I've really been trying to decide what bike I would apply whatever kit I get to, even if it meant I needed to buy something new. But I think my best option to start with is a...

Your Creation's Before & After Pics

Very nice! I am also contemplating a single speed build on a road frame. 39/15 (68 gear inches) puts you at a nice cadence between 18-22mph. How does it climb un-powered with the extra weight? Still ok if you're willing to stand and bang? Do you find yourself wishing for more or less gear when...

    ebike

Nice to see a build that isn't a dual suspension mtb. I'm going to use something similar for my build. Nicely done.

    WOW! Brain overload.

OK but as a noob here's what I see. With the 12s charger I won't have to break up the packs, but will have to parallel the balance plugs and decipher which plug goes where and if I get it wrong I kill cells or damage the pack. Not saying it's not a good solution, but maybe above my skill level...

    WOW! Brain overload.

I'm halfway sold. I found this charger, which if I limit myself to 6 batteries, would seem to be an easy solution for charging 6 batteries at once. http://www.buddyrc.com/icharger-306b.html used with this http://www.buddyrc.com/paraboard-v2-xh-xt60.html I would probably build a 12s2p pack...

    WOW! Brain overload.

I may do that, although I probably won't use LiPo. If I was already into RC, that might make sense for me, but since I'm not, I don't see that making the effort to go that route would save me anything but a little weight. Pretty heavy downside there too. If I get it wrong then I burn my house or...

    WOW! Brain overload.

All this has been very helpful. It's nice to know I was on the right track. Conclusions: 1) 48V through a 500-750W motor is definitely required to get the maximum speed that I want. 2) 15ah would be fine if I stick to 20mph, just barely enough if I run at 25mph, and not enough if I max it...

    WOW! Brain overload.

This is the Redline from awhile back. Right now it has a flat bar in place of that wonky touring bar. All steel frame and fork. and the Giant 29er with studded snow tires... and since it's show and tell, here's the fast 3 speed I put together. Notice the gear selector on the brake lever...
