Getting back into ebiking and my packs are dead

After a very long hiatus and the acquisition of a Shimano EP8 powered class 1 eMTB, I dusted off my 72v folding ebike and the Makita based battery pack is pretty well spent. It has the Shenzen Sucteam controller that was hot stuff on this forum... a decade or more ago. I used Makitas for the...

    Replacing a 36V (250W) geared motor with a 24V one

Yeh you can get a different wind in a motor. I have two 36v hub motors... one for 20" wheels and one for big 700cc wheels. But I only have 20" ebikes. I never used the one for 700cc wheels in a 700cc wheel, I just wanted something that spun slower in a 20" rim.

Lots of drag on a direct drive rear hub motor

All right, thanks dudes. I will harvest the other usable parts (the frame is an incredibly heavy steel monstrosity) and move onto finishing my RC motor driven folding bike :) I see I need to update my sig.

Lots of drag on a direct drive rear hub motor

It had drag when I started (with no controller). I tried shorting the phase wires in different combos and then all together. No noticeable difference. It feels almost like there's some indexing. I'm gonna guess there's a mechanical problem. Worth trying to figure out what's up with the...

Lots of drag on a direct drive rear hub motor

It's brushless. A short sounds possible-- the stock controller was really pitiful but both of the keywin controllers I threw on it blew FETs on a phase IIRC. I swapped in FETs a couple times but then just shoved it into the back of the garage and forgot about it. Some massive torque out of...

Lots of drag on a direct drive rear hub motor

Ok, thanks, I'll throw an ohm meter on the power wires. Been out of ebikes for many years and couldn't think what to test. My DIY orange Makita powered folding bike is still running 11 years later. Keywin 72v. So I haven't had to do much troubleshooting, but I'm moving and this Eton Eco has...

Lots of drag on a direct drive rear hub motor

I tried to resurrect an Eton Eco folding ebike I bought off Craigslist a decade ago. Battery is toast but I ran it off a bench supply @24v w/ the original pedal first controller. The bike has a direct drive rear hub motor-- massive copper monster. I tried spinning the wheel by hand and it...

    BMX left hand drive

Originally I had wanted to build an RC powered bike that didn't need two stage reduction. I figured I could get close by using go kart sprockets and a small wheel. The first scooter had a very small wheel... Like six inches. The reduction wasn't much but you don't need much with a wheel that...

    BMX left hand drive

Yes I'm thinking I should leave this wheel alone. The bike is a Haro Pro 24 in excellent condition https://www.harobikes.com/race/bikes/2015-race/pro-24-2015 Too nice to hack up. I was going to put my RC motor on a Downtube folder (I even had mated a no.35 sprocket to the 8 spd Sturmey Archer...

    BMX left hand drive

This looks like a one way solution?

    BMX left hand drive

I have a brushless RC motor which I setup for no.25 drive on a scooter, but the first time I took it out, I broke the fork. I also happen to have a no.25 sprocket which I machined onto a 16t freewheel many years ago (I made it not freewheel anymore). I noticed my 24" bmx bike has threads on...

    GIANT Full E+ 2014 mid-drive mtb ebike

So I don't have time to watch all these videos, but are the components on any of these bikes good? I mean looking at Giant's 2015 offerings, they put 32mm forks on almost everything unless you spend 5k. Adding electric drive means you can abuse the bike a lot harder.

Another NYX Carbon Fiber E-Frame built ! by Doc

Looking good DoctorBass! I haven't been on the forums in a couple years and was glad to see one of your threads near the top :) What Giant bike did you use? I recently got into AM/freeride and picked up a Trance and Reign (not electrified).

    H-Bridge schematic?

Well, a search of mouser makes it pretty easy. Criteria: type: high AND low side. ( select all options like that in mouser filters) inverting/non-inverting (doesnt really matter. should be consistent if 2 channel to avoid driving self crazy) at least 1a drive current runs off 12v supply (so...

    H-Bridge schematic?

This has all stirred up a bunch of memories from long ago. Need 3 H bridges to drive a 3 phase brushless DC motor. An H-bridge has a high side and a low side. This connects power to the battery (high side) and then to ground (low side). Without getting into technical details, for high power...

    H-Bridge schematic?

Been busy with family stuff, but starting to get back into my pre-kid hobbies. I'm looking for a schematic for an H-Bridge power circuit for motor control. Figured you guys might be able to point the way. Eagle files would make it even sweeter, but I can make those on my own :) If I...

For the record, the LBS had a $150 Kali Protectives helmet that was reasonably well ventilated.

    Full Face Helmet

I've been careful and lucky and have managed to avoid any serious crash so far until yesterday. I still have all my teeth but a face full of road rash isn't so fun-- any recommendations on full face helmets that still have good ventilation? My open face MTB lid did its job, so glad I was...

    125V 80mph e-recumbent by Paul McDonald

Veloman: "Not able to apply as much power to the pedals." How's that? You push with your legs against a seat back. On an upright, you push really hard and you lift out of your seat...

    Need a 36v or 72v 3 phase motor controller

For the record, an an H-bridge is just a way to switch power on and off. Nothing about forward or backward. You use two transistors, one for connecting your load to high voltage and another for connecting to ground. There's a lot of little circuitry that needs to be in place for various...

    BMSBattery/ECityPower Experience

My Makita's from 2008 are still working FYI :) Two packs died 3 years ago but I had them replaced for next to nothing by Makita.

Neil, what's the Xlyte one worth to you? Replacing the regulator(s) is not a problem.

    Wooden bicycles, lots of pics

Some wooden bike pics from NAHBS 2009. Got plenty of others on my hard drive somewhere from the NAHBS in Sacramento and Maker Faire. https://picasaweb.google.com/petersbikes/NAHBS09

    Need a 36v or 72v 3 phase motor controller

I need a decent motor controller for some tinkering; I'll be tearing it apart. It shouldn't be a POS but at the same time, I don't want to cry because I've killed a $150 motor controller. I got a couple of BMSBattery controllers three or four years back that are OK but shipping was SLOOOOOW...

Anyone familiar with fiberglass as springs?

I just saw a guy using long pieces of polycarb for a 4 wheelers suspension at Maker Faire.
