Beta CA build for R/C controllers

Hey Justin, I just ordered a CA-LRC too for my mini friction drive system, are they still in production or is it just the test batch? Is there a way to limit the maximum speed as well? Cause then my friction drive would be 100% legal in the Netherlands! Thanks, hjoore

Single swingarm (cheap, quick and dirty) friction drive

@ Fietsbel: I just got another twist throttle, I just read your offer but it was too late! thanks anyway. I managed to create a new mini drive system like yours (commuter booster), from some scrap HMPE block, and with some sawing and drilling it turned out to be a great clamp! I just tested it...

    Budget Lightweight Friction Drive

woow now thats what i'm talking about!! 8) 7kW is insane on a bicycle! I wonder how long your tires last? I was also thinking of replacing the sanding belt epoxy method with some kind of sleeve, maybe a metal with knurled pattern, the un-even-ness of the sanding paper causes lots of wear on...

    Budget Lightweight Friction Drive

Hey guys, That was one crazy ride! Never had so much fun/adrenaline during my routine forest ride! Too bad it burned afterwards, but... I just finished my version 2.0 friction drive, (still have no name for it), with a slide-on 370Wh battery container, and the swingarm construction which...

ESC Settings Hobbyking SS 190/200 A

Hey yeah its a 5S, it can't wheelie without pedaling, but with a little pedaling it can lift the front wheel, I haven't nailed it yet but will practice at it to make a nice video. For the hall throttle, check the big post on <1 kg commuter booster, in the index on page 1 you can find how, I...

ESC Settings Hobbyking SS 190/200 A

My version 1.5 friction drive is now working, without over-center locking and the bigger 63-74 motor and ramp control and hall twist throttle!! This thing is so much fun! Acceleration with pedaling is insanely fast, power wheelies from 10-25 km/h and then to 42 km/h in a few seconds! Up a hill...

    Budget Lightweight Friction Drive

Yes I have nice close up pictures, I just gotta see how I can post them here... Thanks for the response Adrian, that was what I was thinking, maybe a full twist throttle on the left with the potmeter stuff on the outside of the bar, so its still operating the same way. Then I can leave all the...

    Budget Lightweight Friction Drive

In the video I would say I pedaled with medium power, going 45km/h instead of 33km/h at my max constant pedal power. It has great potential, as Adrian can agree I think. Haha yes the misaligned motor was trying to rip my tire in two, there is a nice line down the middle with one half smooth and...

    Budget Lightweight Friction Drive

My project has been on pause for 2 weeks now cause I burned my big 63-54 motor after a crash... Aparantly the drive was warped and the stator of the motor was running onto the tyre, while the rotor was trying to drive it!! This caused so much heat some windings were destroyed. Its a shame cause...

Single swingarm (cheap, quick and dirty) friction drive

Hey Fietsbel, I'm building a friction bike drive too in the Netherlands! Nice to see your work! it looks good already. I am currently using a Kepler drive type, I burned my 63-54 motor after it crashed and aparantly it ran into the tyre with the stator, heating it up beyond its limits. I also...

ESC Settings Hobbyking SS 190/200 A

by the way my motor never touches the wheel when its disengage so braking doesn't do anything at that point. I have a single sided motor swingarm setup without any guide or anything, just a little rubber band, its great to witness torque and Newtons laws do their job :)

ESC Settings Hobbyking SS 190/200 A

You guys are right, the soft start only works from zero throttle, but that is when you want smooth throttle when it starts meeting the wheel, with a servo slow down module it would be a little smoother while its engaged. I use the brake because if I don't, it won't disengage from the wheel, I...

    The limits to friction drive

Hi specialtreva, My bike runs with the smaller 63-54 motor, and pulls about 1100 watts up hill, it roughly has 10kg or 100N or 22lbs of pushing force. With this you can climb a 9% grade easily, or with some assist, you can do this at 20-25km/h. I'll post some graphs of it later, but a human...

ESC Settings Hobbyking SS 190/200 A

Hi guys, I just completed my first friction bike stealthy prototype 1. I use a Turnigy Aerodrive 63-54 motor, with a cheap HobbyKing SS 190/200 A brushless ESC and a 5S 8000mAh Zippy LiPo. At first I had some problems with the ESC slipping electrically and screeching a lot, due to wrong...

1000km of ebike bliss & post your CA stats!

Hey Simon, Congratulations on the 1000km, what brand of LiPo's do you use? Theres a lot of people who get faulty ones. I just rode my new Zippy LiPo 5S 8000mAh once, it did a great job, and want to order more of them if they are reliable enough. Greets Hans

    Budget Lightweight Friction Drive

Thanks guys, I got it working so quickly because I read some of your advice on this forum, The wood was just a quick proof-of-concept scrap material, but thanks to the little box design it is still rigid enough. I already have some Aircraft grade 6mm aluminum and a Topeak beamrack for the...

    Budget Lightweight Friction Drive

Hi Ebike guru's and Ebike-curious readers! I am new to Ebike building, but am glad to tell you that I just made my own little friction drive and had a great first test ride! Heres the setup: - Motor: Turnigy 6354 - ESC: HobbyKing SS 190/200 - Battery: 1 X 5S 18.5V 8000mAh Zippy -...
