BBS-FW: Open Source Firmware for BBSHD/BBS02 Controller

Yeah I'm also on Linux, in fact currently the Steam Deck is my only PC. Despite my hate for Windows I have Windows on SDcard laying around, just for occasions like these.

The Repairable Infinite Battery is NOW LIVE on Indiegogo! 25% OFF Early-bird offer!

Awesome, I was wondering how it was going. Can't wait for some more options and larger sizes! (hint hint: a large 52v triangle battery is what I need, lol)

Looking for hub motor for regen purposes

I agree we should always be cautious and he gave good input on that, but I think he underestimates the value of regen braking. That being said I have 0 personal experience with it, but from reading about it and the experience of others, it became very interesting to me especially for the purpose...

Looking for hub motor for regen purposes

@Chalo As much as I like your contributions to this forum, sometimes I feel like you are stuck in the past, you even still seem to recommend mechanical brakes over hydraulic. "It's not designed for it" well 90% of what we see on this forum is not the designed for its original purpose, it's...

Looking for hub motor for regen purposes

Hmm should I be concerned running 203mm with Magura mt5's on QR skewer? I've survived my last heavy loaded tour with a lot of crazy descents, 70+kmph at some point, but my Deore m615s were definitely sub-optimal and having a hard time keeping up. Is there anything I can do except changing out...

Looking for hub motor for regen purposes

Hmmm yeah I didn't think about that, I thought if it can manage the disc brakes it can manage the regen braking, but I guess the extra weight is the issue? Not an expert in the whole force calculations and I'm already running bigger rotors than my fork and frame are specced for (203mm, specced...

Looking for hub motor for regen purposes

Why don't you do it on the front? Would be easier to assemble/disassemble, probably better weight balance and "braking" on the front is always more effective.

Looking for hub motor for regen purposes

Any update on this? I've just ordered Magura MT5s actually to upgrade my Deore M615, mainly hoping less pad wear and just better overall stopping power and modulation. By switching to metallic pads I could increase from 600km to 1000km on pads, but still that's every few weeks for me. If the...

My Bullit build using the Repairable and Refillable Gouach Battery

Yep, I want something to replace my huge triangle battery, won't even need mounting brackets or anything like that, because I will use a frame (triangle) bag anyway.

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

Thanks, I'm gonna look around what I can find here in Europe. It's obviously also my riding style, when I am touring fully packed I get thousands of km out of my pads. It's that fast paced stop and go city riding that eats pads. I'm also considering upgrading my Shimano Deore m615 calipers for...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

I've done 40000km in just 3.5 years with constant stop and go city riding with speeds going up to 55kmph. No way I'm ever getting 11 years out of pads even if they were sprinkled with angel dust. I've tried sintered pads, but they also lasted only maybe 700km. I might try your "EBC Gold HH+"...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

Thanks, this is very interesting and I'm gonna look into this. Yeah "solely designed for regen" is maybe a dumb statement from me, I was thinking more about a motor optimised for regen with the lowest weight penalty possible. Actually having a small still functional hub motor might be a good...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

I've been thinking about the idea, if they could develop a hub solely designed for regen braking? Like I ride a BBSHD middrive and it's also mostly deliveries in the city, I ride pretty agressive, so it's eating up brake pads. I'm not sure if it would make any sense and I'm sure I'm missing...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

Nah not where I am, done 40000km of pretty damn fast riding on my BBSHD. Few warnings for red lights and when my bike was parked a cop asked "is that electric?" other than that, nothing. Maybe in the centre of Paris? I don't know. Yeah like I said, the only reason is brake wear, when you are...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

It was me who suggested regen braking, I don't have any personal experience so others should indeed chime in here. But I thought from what I heard/read it would work well to supplement braking and some say they rely almost solely on regen braking. Which would result in less brake wear, because...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

Personally I would keep it as simple as possible. Rigid frame no suspension, but wider tires and maybe a suspension seatpost. Steel frame might be a good option. I like to just use a backpack, because the best suspension is you and your legs and when you carry drinks and stuff that's the better...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

Regen as in regenerative braking, so you kinda "brake" with the motor and it puts some power back in the battery. I don't have personal experience with it, but I believe it's more "resistance" than actual braking, but the most beneficial thing about it seems to be reduced brake pads wear...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

Yeah I understand, what I do is I have a custom firmware and my ebike automatically starts up in a "legal" mode, so it has limited power, limited top speed and the throttle acts as a walk assist mode and only by a certain button combo it starts up in full power mode, I also have a 250w sticker...

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

That would be mostly brake pads lol, tires last me 20000km, discs 5000+, chain 5000+, bearings I haven't even looked at. Hub with regen would be a good choice to reduce brake pads maintenance.

[EU]Looking for a reliable conversion kit

Is it really being enforced? Been running the BBSHD at full power for 3.5 years now in France, I'm also a delivery driver, never had issues with the police, but when I see police I always slow down a bit.

    CYC Photon Gravel Commuter Build

Just browsing around here, I've seen some good deals. But this is an absolute steal! And it's steel! Just the bike alone is almost worth your asking price I would think. Too bad I'm on a different continent, lol. Good luck with the sale. 👍🏼

expected lifespan of a good charger?

I've only used the cheap Chinese chargers that came with my 52v battery, I've got 2 of them now, 3.5 years 40000+km and both still work fine, maybe some fan noise every now and then, but nothing crazy.

    Newb planning a touring build

I'd just go BBSHD and get the largest triangle battery you can fit if you want to do serious touring miles and some wild camping like me. Any bike can be a touring bike this was my previous bike set up for touring: Now I've got a Surly, I'm excited to use that bike for my next tour!

Trek Marlin 5 w/ BBSHD and 52V Shark /// Best chainring size?

No problem, they are good chainrings, narrow-wide teeth. I just use one of those simple "spider" adaptors: https://a.aliexpress.com/_EvZUaef Also 1 or 2 spacer is recommended (or you can use washers) as it runs pretty close to the motor cover and with some flexing and/or dirt it can...

Trek Marlin 5 w/ BBSHD and 52V Shark /// Best chainring size?

The one I got goes up to 60T, but has no offset, so probably no use for you, haven't seen any super large chainrings with offset. https://a.aliexpress.com/_ExfwCBt
