1982 MB-5 30kW peak 230 lbs Complete new VIDEO! 82mph

Extreme tuck is exactly what an acute angle on bars are really intended for, so that makes sense. Give it a shot, I've made too big a deal of it at this point...

I can't wait to set the record for fastest mb5! I better not put the bike down on the maiden voyage...

What do oyu think.. front fender or no front fender? I've got delrin protecting the front of the battery.

Go for it! I need a goal to beat! :D

I've been running No fender and like it, but even a small puddle, and I'm wiping mud off my face. HerrDeacon used a handmade Carbonfiber fender that looks real good (thats the bike you posted on jan 3.) I'm considering trying to copy that design. Details of his build are here: http://www.2strokeworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=11287.0

Maybe I'll try a nicer fender of a NSF or nsr or ns bike.

Got some parts done today. Tomorrow if I'm lucky I will be able to compress the pack sans delrin front. Honestly I probably don't even need to cover the front how I was planning... But it is a nice place for water to enter.

A rewarding process.. but not exactly a fun one. I'm waiting for myself to compress some nickel into a short circuit (it's much safer than I'm indicating, really). My model was pretty close. I left some room for packaging. What will happen is I'll compress the shit out of it some more and the wax will give in a little. No vibration happening here once this thing is mounted

Hat do you guys think of this headlight which happens to be LED

That light looks good, and its optics seem like they'd deliver a useful beam. It's huge, though-- the same diameter as all car headlights were in the USA until 1983. If that's the look you want, go for it-- but that sucker is going to look quite a bit bigger on your bike than it does on a Guzzi.

Wow, that's a fantastic price on that headlight. I feel like a 7" headlight will look huge on the MB5, but it could look badass. Thanks for that, I'm pretty sure I can use this on a project at some point.

the mb-5 fork tubes are almost exactly 7 inches from the extremes. so this light wouldn't stick out in that direction... hmm. I'd have to mock it up. I also have an old new stock E30 headlamp lying around... but no enclosure

this bike is pretty small, isn't it?

That bike is giant relative to the mb :). If there's room between the forks then sweet. Such a badass headlight!

Fuuuuu... I just bought a 7" headlight too. I dropped $100 on it, and now you post this awesome thing...
I may have to eat the loss and buy one. 9 Watt total is better when the ICE version only has a 60watt peak generator, and it's sharing that with every other light.

That Black bike by HerrDeacon is running a 7". They do look big, but good. I went to the 7" because it looked better than the stock 5.25"

That Silver Yamaha is Huge compared to an MB5.

Mm.. fits like a glove. how do you like taht rear 12p group sandwhiched by .375" aluminum? with only .01" G10 between? lol.. I'll be adding some formex there.

Looks good! Battery pron for sure. Controllers have to be in this orientation to fit... unless put in gas tank area. I'm starting to think I may make a jank yet creative gas tank made of wire or something. the only reason I'm getting the tank from a guy is so I don't have to fab the seat mount (the tank extends under the seat). Seems like too much work with diminishing returns to restore a tank.

I have noticed that infineon isn't consistent with the length of the controller enclosure. Also, they are usually way oversized. Thermal mass is great thing, but I've already cut .75" off my other 24FET I use on my ebike. I'll do the same with this one.. (more like an inch off this one). The miniBMS boards I am going to use are frickin' huge so I may need the extra room.

Figure a typical headlight is like 1200 lumens, and the Chinese specs for headlights are like at least 30 percent optimistic. It's probably close though, and I'm sure the original mb5 headlight wasn't anything spectacular.

idk though. 9W seems weak for a big motorcycle. my magicshine is what.. 10-12W? come on... am I missing something? 3 x 3W 12V it says. 33W would be another story :) in fact, that would add up and make sense.

3W is an LED emitter rating, like a "500W" hub motor. It's all about how hard it's driven and how well its output is directed. If you want to know how much power it's really using, you have to measure. And as for how well it's illuminating the road, you just have a look.

First generation DOT rated halogen car headlights made 700 lumens at 45W on low beam, and 1200 lumens at 65W on high beam. Cutting edge LEDs are making 200 lumens per watt last I checked. The ones in your eBay headlight are not going to represent the absolute best the industry has to offer, but that doesn't mean it won't be equal or better to what came on the motorcycles it is intended for.
