I have a 72v headway battery kit (24 cells, BMS and charger), but I only want 60v worth of battery because I can only fit 20 cells in my frame.
Is it possible to only use 20s of batteries with a 24s BMS and charger? If so do I just leave 4 of the balance wires disconnected? Also, does it matter the order that the balance wires are connected (besides the positive one)?

Thank you.

which BMS do you use? most of them besides the ping signalab can be wired up like you said and just leave the 4 top sense wires disconnected. i usually remove the sense wires from the plug even. there is a little catch that holds the pin in the plug and you push on the part that sticks out in the plastic sleeve right below where the pins clip together. there is a little access below the tip, push your tiny screwdriver in there against that barb sticking out and push it in so the pin and sense wire will slide backwards out of the plug.

Cell number one is always on the negative side.
So you remove the most positive ones, 21,22,23,24.
You will have to tune down your charger to around 74V. if possible, or change it.

I'm not sure who the manufacturer is for the BMS I have, below is the pic of it though

So if I remove 21,22,23,24 and dial back the charger to 74v, this should work?

Like dnmun said, "most of them besides the ping signalab can be wired up like you said"
Only way to know whit yours is to try it.
At worst, it won't work, no damage done.

even if it doesn't work we can show you how to make it work. never seen that one. does it have a separate charging spot called C- or does the charger connect on the drains at P-?
