Yes, this sounds odd...but I'm rigging a 24v ebike controller into my kids powerwheels jeep...but I'm stuck on how to get the throttle to work. The powerwheels jeep only comes with a on/off pedal so thats no good.

Is there anyone that makes a pedal assembly that would work like a ebike throttle?

Thanks!

They make them for golf carts. Not cheap though.

One way is to find a linear potentiometer and build a linkage to a pedal for it. Most controllers will work with a 5k -10k pot. A standard rotary pot could work too by using a cable wrapped around the shaft with a spring to return it.

If you google 'throttle pot' and look at the images, you might get some ideas.

You could see if you have a 5K-10K slider potentiometer, like the ones on EQs and volume controls on some stereo systems. Then mount this at the side or end of the existing pedal plastic stuff, so that the pedal moves the slider up and down. Quick and easy to build. ;)

Alternately, there's a lot of those old steering-wheel/gas-pedal type of game controllers at Goodwill and other thrift stores. I see them around here every other time I'm at the GW near my house (one of the guys there says they throw away tons of them that get donated) Buy one of those and I'd betcha there's a usable-resistance pot inside the pedal, and you could jsut use that whole assembly as your new accelerator pedal, replacing the existing one.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the idea's. I'm liking the golden motor link that dilkes posted. To bad it wasent half the price.

I might just try a DIY one as you guys suggest. Great forum thanks :)

Yes, that should work great. 5v hall effect will work with most controllers. Not sure how durable it is, but it should at least work for a while.

Cable connected to a thumb throttle can work for a whatever actuated throttle.

But oohh,, I like that pedal throttle for the kid car.

Thanks guys.

If I got a 48V controller and 48v battery, would the throttle pedal work as well? Is the 0-5v output good regardless of 24, 36 or 48v controller/battery?

Yes, as long as the throttle plug on the controller is the right type for it (often two wire for potentiometer throttles, three wire for hall throttles. Some pot throttles still use three wires like halls do).
