I am having a 29in hub wheel built and need to know what spoke length is necessary, its is a 1000W type motor and the spoke length for 1-cross 26in is 168mm (fairly standard). Alternatively, if someone could measure their 29er rim from opposite spoke eyelets, i can easily calculate the spoke length.

If you are asking this particular question, you are probably not already a skilled wheel builder. Hub motor wheels are harder to get right than normal bike wheels, and have less structural integrity for a few different reasons. You should get the best quality build available to you, which means letting an experienced and respected wheel builder do this job. Such a builder will know how to calculate the correct spoke length.

I encourage you to learn wheel building techniques for yourself, but don't start with a hub motor wheel you will be depending on. First, do a normal front bike wheel with a symmetrical hub.

Oh i've measure and had custom-cut spokes made for about 20 wheels, just all for 20", 24", and 26" which I've purchased the rims for and measured properly. Just haven't done 29" yet. I get the local bike guy to lace it unbelievably tight and straight for $25-30 a wheel and has complimented me on how exact the spoke lengths are. I guess I'll have to buy the wheel and measure it and then get the spokes cut.

I use http://lenni.info/edd/ for spoke length calculation. It is a web client for Damon Rinard's Spocalc spreadsheet. It has a fair database of rims and hubs, but it probably does not contain dimensions for any hub motors.

If you Google the name of your rim model plus "ERD", you might get a number to work with.

+1, i was just using the ebikes.ca thing. I'll have to find a quality 29er rim

Velocity Psycho is one of the strongest available. If your frame has enough room, there are also big 29" mountain unicycle rims like this.

Sun Rhyno Lite 700c is widely available, inexpensive (about $35), and quite robust.
