Found on CraigsList a Honda MR50 engine (2-stroke 3 speed with clutch).
The guy thinks it an antique and wants $45 for it...If it looks OK I will probably take a chance on it and see if I can separate the transmission from the crankcase (it's already mechanically separated because of the 2-stroke) and get a 3 speed tranny for the eBike.

What do you guys think???

Hi RWP,
For certain it will be a robust unit once it is re-housed or trimmed up to fit the application. In my experiance your going to fine the ratios kinda close together for ellectric motor use.

There are a few examples of guys using motorcycle trannys around the net.
Most are a little disapointed that the only viable gears were 3rd for starting out & then 5th while underway.
But you know I am a multi ratio advocate, so anything is better than nothing.

The MR50 is a collectable these days :D

Maybe a little too robust I hear you saying.

I think the engine part of this package is junk.
I am older than this thing - maybe I am a collectable too?

Do any of you have a link to these bikes that used a motorcycle transmission? I have considered getting the parts from the small china dirt bike to use, they are DIRT cheap too!
