Has anyone used 3d printed gears? I have had success using 3d printed parts for the motor mounts, and have printed some gears, but haven't had a chance to test them yet. They are for my second e board. The printed get is a htd 5m 36 tooth for 9mm wide belt, to mount on orangatang wheel.
Anyone have any experience? This was a test run part, I have a much better quality set I plan on using.

My first test sprocket was printed with ABS. It was a little slippery so the belt skipped. I think PLA may work a little better but I haven't tried it yet.

You say it was a little slippery? I'm curious how it was slipping. When I used XL timing belts they would tend to stretch and want to climb the teeth. Is this what your talking about?
The only worry I had was that they wouldn't be rigid enough, deflect and skip or not strong enough and twist off.

The surface of the material was a little slippery or oily and the edges of the printed parts tend to be rounded. PLA seems to be a little less petrol. I would recommend experimenting though.

Ok well i will test it out, i mean they were printed on a $180,000 printer after all. The motors for the new board just came in, sk3 5055 280kv. I just need to do a little bit of wiring and cut out some motor plates. Might be able to have it running this weekend!

Next thing i want to experiment with is switching from delta to wye on the original set of motors. They are sk3 450kv. One of the magnets got chipped plus they are crazy fast over 30mph so I dont feel bad if I ruin one.

Thanks for sharing your experience. That's good to hear. I can cut them out cnc, but printing is so much easier. Are you using htd pullies also?

Well I got out and put some miles on the gears and they work great. I did have one problem. The hangar clamp I printed broke, but it appears it was due to it only being 30% infill, I may have also started the crack with a really tight threaded hole. (yes you can tap printed parts). I will be printing out some new mounts at at least 80% and thicker wall.
