The story is simple:

I have this ebike conversion kit (250w motor, 36v 10ah battery, kt36zwsr controller and a thumbthrottle) works perfectly!

but today i got ahold of a 500w 8fun motor at work and were thinking "what if i just switch motors, do i get more speed?"

it did not work because the 8fun motor has the typical bafang cables, six pin stuff and my old motor has this 9 pin thing, i even tried with the controller that were included with the engine, did not work either (probably because of eu laws etc, it is restricted from thumbthrottle drive etc)

Like an idiot i tried to convert the cables, cut both in half and soldered them back together, obviously one of the cables has 3 cables more then the bafang one but i just skipped those, it did not work, my old controller told me to frock off.

My question is: do you guys know about any controller that is very open and would let me connect my new motor and use it only with thumbthrottle? hassle free is prefered.

Kindly regards, An idiot.

9 Pin connectors that I've seen. I took a pic of one I have right now.
1. thick blue -motor phase
2. thick green -motor phase
3. thick yellow -motor phase
4. red -Hall sensor power +5volts
5. black -Hall sensor ground
6. white -Hall Sensor
7. blue -Hall sensor
8. yellow -Hall sensor
9. white -optional motor speed sensor (uses power from Hall sensors)

Never seen a 6 pin motor connector. I would guess it's like this, if the colors matched?
Thick Blue, Yellow, Green for motor?
White, Red, Black for speed sensor?

Well, it doesn't matter. It didn't work and probably won't work. I think the 500W motor is a sensorless motor, so they don't have the five wires for the Hall sensors. I'm guessing they added three wires for the speed sensor.

You will have to buy a sensorless controller to use that motor. They exist, and are kind of cool.

Too bad you cut a good cable. I find it a real chore to splice a 9 pin connector onto a motor that didn't have one.

You are spot on Docw009

the 9 pin cable you posted is exactly the one i had and your 6 pin guess is correct

Dont worry about the cut cable, i used the extension cable and i have spares :)

Any tip on a good sensorless controller? if i google one i will probably get infinite results and choose one that wont work.

I bought mine in error from BMSbattery.com, but it works OK with my hall sensored motor. Their shipping is kind of high.

Elifebike has these on their aliexpress store.. Shipping is more reasonable. Their regular website only shows Hall sensor controllers. I have bought stuff from them on aliexpress and on their website. Probably cheaper to buy the whole kit rather than go for the LCD/LED as an add-on.

However, my experience is with the BMSbattery controller.

i actually landed on this and ordered it https://www.pandaebikes.com/shop/ex...controller-no-hall-control-normal-cable-type/

But the one you linked seems really interesting so im ordering that one too! (you can never have to many controllers)

I will post an update when ive tried the new controller, thanks for your help!

Btw i know now what the extra three wires are (Black red white)

It is some kind of speed sensor that is in the motor, all the bikes in my store have these sensors, my bikes are cheap, there is no speedometer on my bikes except for one that has a speedometer, all bikes are restricted to 25 kmh.
when i disconnect the cable (black red white) the speedometer of the bike with it does not show any speed (obviosly) BUT the bikes that dont have an speedometer and the one with now goes beyond the 25 kmh limit! the stock controller cant limit speed if it cant detect any speed
