After much searching and a little gambling I found a tool battery I can put to use.
I wanted to run 18650 after some interesting times with RC lipo.
whilst 12kw is fun, it's not really needed for the daily ride to work. And we'll HK packs quality are
I have killed a good number of RC lipo at or below its C rating.
The 80v packs are made for a few companies Greenworks in the US , Victa and Kobalt here in Australia.
I bought a pack and found out it put out 30amp burst
very promising, after much a search on the web I wasn't able to find out the cell type. But by chance I was holding the batteries under a light and could see a code under the cover of the cells, UR18650XR - 24A. They are rated for 20a continuous and hold 2000mah. So my 4 packs gives me 80amps @ 72v nominal. At full charge around 6Kw. All up 560whrs for $320 USD. Also no need to go buy a Spot welder or nickel or BMS etc.
Do they parallel charge and discharge ? They sure do
I charged two at once off the Kobalt charger @ 300 watts. And I discharged two at once on the bike.
was able to pull more amps and less sag with two packs
The package they come in is fairly large, so I was able to get the size down by removing the cover and relocating the BMS. The pack in the first picture on the left is with the BMS relocated and the front cover removed, a good 3cm reduction.
over the next few days I'll wire up the packs, cover them and install on the bike. Hoping to fully waterproof the packs.
Another good thing is the recharge c rating will be 1/2 C rather than the 2c for one pack, hopefully over time this extends the pack life, also the charger does 4.1 per cell rather than 4.2. I'd say most 18650 are 4.1.
Not sure if it's a good thing or not, but all 80 cells are individually balanced as each pack of 20 has its own BMS.
I'd say each pack has LVD and HVD,
