In looking for a low cost/low intended usage chain tool to carry, I came across this chain tool set, via Amazon:
The set comes with the chain tool and spare pin, a chain wear gauge, a wire hook, and spare 6-10 speed quick links. The screw press machining is especially nice, and very smooth. Size-wise, the tool is a little bigger than the compact Park carry tool and is easier to operate (both the screw operation and fitting in the hand). Roadside, the hook wire takes the place of using a wire tie, shoe lace, or similar to hold the chain ends:

I've not used the supplied quick links, and don't know how well they work or hold up.
P.S. There are variations of the tool set available, some include chain "pliers".
