For your information - Leaderhobby today's special deal:

C8085 KV250 - USD 54.58
https://www.leaderhobby.com/product.asp?ID=9394001224353

also C6364 KV230 - USD 32.87
http://www.leaderhobby.com/product.asp?ID=9394001224158

and much more, search will tell you

I'm already paid for C8085 )

I have orderd from them 4 times now.
the comunication is weak, but they deliver faster than Hobby king (to me anyway) & the stuff is exactly what I am expecting. The motors do not come with all the mounting accesories or "trim" that HK supplies...but that is inconsiquential.

So far Leaders is working well for me.

Thanks for replying think I will try one :)

Are there any advantages or dissadvantages to having a higher Kv, i know the rpm's for a given voltage will be higher than the 170kv version, but what else, easier or harder on the controller etc?

Thanks Simon.

Thanks for the tip. I got an email about the 6364-230KVs but would have missed the 8085s.
Now I have 5x 6363s & 1x 8085 on the way. :D

Thinking about ordering one. Any thoughts on leaderhobby?(reliability etc)

I have ordered a few times from leaderhobby (motors,ESCs,cables) and been very happy with their products and service.

yes & yes.
Kv is one factor for determining a set up (or configuration) for a given voltage or amp availability. If you are constrained by voltage....you can wind to spin faster to realize the same "power density" as long as you can provide the amperage required for that senario.
The other senario is to "volt up" to the rpm's with a lower kv motor. The therotical power potential of any given motor is allways exactly the same....
Look at all the availble winds for the Astro3220 series motors.....study the charts & do the math. They all reflect 4.5kw continuous rated power outputs.

I know that this motor is pretty efficent up to aproximatly 9krpms....then iron losses start to dominate & the motor heating becomes exponential. I would excpect this 250KV to be an optimal wind for 36ish volts....but the Amp draws will be subtantial. You will need a very hearty controller & be very aware of the loads your imposing.

I have a few on the way also...they will be re-configured for my applications.
hope that helped.

WOW!
leaders hobbies just set a record. I orderd 5 motors last sunday evening.....& i recieved them this afternoon. 6 days from china to Michigan.
& suprize, these motors all came with prop mounts, screws & accesories.....bonus for the junk box.

what is weird is the end bells on the motors are not all the same....some look like the old HXT motors & early turnigys & some are the newer turnigy style with swept spokes....anyway...i have a lot of rewinding to do now

Everyone on this forum that uses RC lipo would have told you not to get RC Lipo from anyone except Hobbyking. This is not an accurate representation of Leader hobbies. BLDC motors don't degrade as the sit on the shelf. As a supplier for these motors they are just as reliable as hobbyking.

I 100% agree with you.
But I did not order RC Lipo.

The product advertised was a li-mn pack, and i thought it was worth investigating, after reading many positive reviews of their batteries and motors.

They sent me 'rc lipo' instead that was a pack of recycled junk cells. Telling me that it was a free upgrade and that i should be grateful when i mentioned it to them.

Also, they charged me for air shipping but sent it via sea and it took a month and a half to get here.
Then they continued to lie multiple times and offered me only a $10 refund, which i never even got.

Considering it was my first experience with leaders hobby, i do consider it an accurate representation of leadershobby and i have aaaalllll the email correspondence to back it up.

If it were not for the positive reviews of their batteries, i would have not ordered a damn thing from them.

hey thud how do these 250k motors compare to the usual 180's? I'm thinking of rewinding 1 or two... so want to know if they're the same other than the winding.
cheers mate

They are the same...a couple had some of the older looking HXT macineing pattern on the magnet can end bell & this batch definatly is going to get more epoxy on the magnets (really sparse) but overall they are perfect specimins for a good motor build. you won't beat the price......I would order 10 more if I had the funds.

i got a 80100 only a couple of weeks ago... and for only $100. they seem to get stock pretty regularly too. You can always check the 'bay, the prices are usually similar, sometimes more some times less.

Was that from LH or ebay or ? LH price for the 80100 is listed in the $122ish range now, no stock, so you got a really good price then.

yepers. from lh. saw the price and thought I'd better take advantage! :D

I just got mine, it's about a half inch shorter than our favorite 80100. Price was hard to turn down. Shipping was pricey, so I picked up the smaller motor as well. Quality looks similiar, at least they used hex screws on the case.

Yeah, after months waiting for 80100's from HobbyKept, these came 3 days after I ordered them. Unfortunately the 80100's are sold out with Leaders, too. I'm guessing this is a discontinued motor. But I'm getting the feeling my HobbyKing order is for disconintued items, also.

This controller can probably handle it. The 80100's have been blowing it up, but this motor should be a bit less demanding. http://www.rcdude.com/servlet/the-1614/Castle-Creations-Phoenix-ICE2/Detail

I dont think its a discontinued motor... Leaders have been getting stock every month or two for ages, they just sell out VERY quickly. Like I said earlier in this thread, I bought one off 'em only a few weeks ago (an 80100). So dont loose hope yet!

Well, I only suspect it's discontinued because while others say "Preorder," this one that they sold as a clearance at a reduced price says "Sold out." I showed mine to two people who are now disappointed they can't order one. But they can order the OTHER 8085, or the 80100, which are backordered. Just something to consider when making plans.

They are NOT discontinued. You can get them at Sky Hobby in up to 5000 units a month. There is no minimum quantity I just received one 80-100 for $150 shipped to the US. I used my paypal it was quick and easy and I got my motor in 4 days. http://skyhobby.en.alibaba.com/prod...er_Brushless_electric_motors_for_RC_toys.html

They sell the entire range all the way to the 120-70 motor which is $198 at Sky Hobby :-D

ah good to hear mate! was that the price with EMS shipping? Do you know if they're the manufacturer or are they just another retailer?

$150 was with EMS shipping. They are just a distributor. you can actually get an 80-100 from them from 2 different manufactures, Aeolian and ATN. They did not have any black Aeolians in stock so I went with the standard orange ATN/EMP/Turnigy.

I just today received my C8085 KV250 from Leaders Hobby that I ordered on April 21. The price including shipping was right and just over a week for delivery, and it includes all of the RC airplane hardware.
I have not spooled it up yet but from what I can tell via visual inspection the quality is on par with what HobbyKing is selling (if they had it in stock that is).
I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for at this point in time but it should make for a drop-in replacement for the C80100 as it uses the same end plate with matching mounting holes and the same shaft diameter (12mm). I will have to rewind it of course.
