I have a geared motor, so my direct plug CA cannot tell me the right speed and distance.
Is it possible adding an external speedometer?
Is there someone could write me how adding an external speedometer please?

Alex.

Yes you can. The speedometer on a DPS/SA model is very simple. It consists of a reed switch attached to a cable, plus a magnet attached to your wheel.

You can cannibalize an old wired bike computer to get the reed switch and magnet. Then you connect the two wires of the reed switch between "Gnd" and "Sp" pins on the CycleAnalyst circuit board. You would disconnect the existing Speed sense wire and hook up your reed switch instead.

There is a diagram in the CA manual showing where the connections are. From the CA manual:
Sp = Speedometer pulse input. Can be either magnetic reed switch to Gnd, or a 0-5V / 0-12V hall signal from the controller

You would also have to configure the advanced options for your CA to set "# poles" to "1" (in addition to setting the wheel size).

Ok, thanks for the info.
I will buy a cheap bike computer and will try adding the cable to the CA.

Alex.
