I have a Turnigy 6364-280 that I'm in the process of switching from delta to wye. I finally got it apart using screw extractors - all the flatheads were superglued (not threadlocked) in place. The strands are not in nice pairs like in Jeremy's pictures. It's like an M.C. Escher painting in there; everything is on top of everything else. I think the bundles I'm looking for were wrapped on the inside, then the loose jumpers from coil to coil were pushed on top of them, & glue was smeared all over.

I haven't worked with magnet wires much. How much can I yank on / probe / bend the wires without damaging the insulation? I haven't tried heating the motor to soften the glue yet - seems risky - should I try that? Any other tips?

Once I'm ready to solder, do I need to strip or burn off the insulation from each strand individually, or can I do the whole bundle at once?

If I have to, I guess I can split all the strands up at the connector end & check them for continuity, or even rewind it with better wire.

Thanks.

Welcome to the world of turnigy modding.
you are attempting the most dificult procedure(imo) by re-terminating the stock wires....

you can bend & pull the wire pretty agresivly without damaging the enamal coating....getting the enamel off the ends is a total pain..
Even more challanging is determining the starts form the ends on the stock wound stator. With all the weaving, its hard to see.

Once you have your phase wires seperated (they are bundled right in the shrink wrap of the current phase wires) I flatten the ends out with a few strokes of a fine wire brush.....then burn the enamel off with a butain pencil tourch, followed by another scrubbing with a micro wire-wheel in the dremel to clean the ends to accept freash solder.

hope that helps. good Luck.
(I have re-wound a pr of these with 16g wire, I can't say if its easyer, but It resolves any uncertancy about the stock wire)

Thud, thanks for the info. I have those tools, so I can do that. I probably will end up rewinding it later. I'm dragging the whole project out into many steps, so I can learn as much as possible along the way.

Do you remember how well the 16g worked out? HK states it is 16turns. Does a single strand of 16g fill up all the space with 16 turns, or did you change the turns?
