Ananda M60 mid motor issues

Hi Guys,

Looking for some help with two Valk e-bikes equipped with an Ananda M60 motor and HMI D19 display/controller.

Both bikes are just over a year old, so unfortunately the warranty has expired. They’ve been well maintained, show no signs of damage or wear, and the batteries are fully charged.

• Bike 1: The motor assist will not operation, with no error codes displayed, but walk assist works and the speed sensor displays the KM/h when manually pedaling the bike.
• Bike 2: Powers up normally, but as soon as I turn the crank, it shows an E28 error. I’ve checked and reseated all cables and connectors into the M60 motor, inspected the wiring, and adjusted the speed sensor position — but the issue persists.

Any suggestions?

I don't know much about that particular model, so some guesswork is involved.
Bike 1 might possibly have a bad torque sensor or sensor wire.
There should be a manual somewhere that tells you what E28 means. That would be a good start.
If both bikes are the same, you might be able to swap parts to narrow down the problem.

There is an older topic where someone figured out the password to enter the setup menu:

I found this Valk manual for the bike and it indicates E28 is a Wiring Communication Error.
But the wiring is all in perfect condition and I also checked the connectors.

But then the D19 has a different code in its manual, like "28 Fault in European standard"

Interesting, I checked the sensor and the alignment of the magnet.
Maybe the sensor is faulty. I might try and swap it over.

Just in case your following this thread or have a similar issue....

I decided to swap some parts between the two bikes, since they have the same running gear.

• Swapped the Speed Sensor S7 → No change
• Swapped the HMI D19 Display → No change
• Swapped the M60 Motor → The problem moved with the motor

So, this means the problem is inside the Ananda M60 motor units on both bikes.
But I am not keen (yet) to open them, as they are just on 18 months old and hardly used.

So I have asked Ananda Support in China for advice. Fingers crossed they can help.

Ananda support has sent me two new motors under warranty.
Swapped them over and the bikes now both work perfectly.
I think they are slightly better than before!

That's pretty impressive. A lot of companies provide no support.

Do you have to send the bad motors back? If not, you can tear into one to maybe see what happened.

Hi, did the support provide any info on what the issue was? I am facing an error 28 whenever I apply torque when pedaling. I can use the bike as normal if i pedal lightly but it will always give an error 28 if I pedal with average force. It must be some issue with how it is sensing the crank.
