I hate UPS with a passion, better to use the regular air mail, not to mention the huge cross border brokerage fees they charge.

yes i work right next to a ups store and i see them load stuff onto truck everyday. They take no care what so ever. Numerous time i see them haul large amount of box on those dolly and they hit bump that send everything crashing on the street. No care is taken for boxes labeled Fragile. I also find Fedex or USPS is cheaper than brown. When i do ship however i make sure to pack the item so it doesn't move around and have decent dampening and cushion. Unfortunately, UPS is a very popular courier use by online retailer.

As long as the motor isn't damaged, any local bike shop should be able to replace the rim. Still, depending on what brand, it might be cheap or expensive, but if the package was insured for at least $100 (UPS defaults to that minimum), I think you can get it fixed for under that amount.

I also have a few spare double-wall 26" rims I would be glad to give to you for free if you cover the shipping & packaging cost.

Sounds like a great Youtube video (hint-hint).

You might want to check into that right away. A lot of times they can get out of it by saying that you didn't complain about the box being damaged when you got it and you opened it, so the damage probably was already like that before it got sent. They have a nack of wiggling their way out of paying.

i think i got some good use..

i was finally able to get a hold of the seller...

he called ups to open up a claim for me .. i contacted ups .. they will have a claim rep come check out my item to estimate damages & give me $ for repairs.. :D ..
i will get this re spoked to 20" hub :) ..

good to hear.
My new ebike that I just ordered is coming through UPS and they were supposed to have it here yesterday, but when I checked on the tracking they screwed something up and did some weird re-send thing and it didn't leave until yesterday afternoon.

Things you may not know about shipping companies.

You do not sign for the receipt of the package, you sign stating the package is recieved without damage. thus....
You can open the package and inspect (even assemble)it for damage before signing.
If the delivery guy refuses to stay then when you sign state on the form, "box looks like sever damage to item, driver refuses to stay for inspection".
You do not claim for the value of the item, but rather a formula based on the weight of the item which is guaranteed never to amount to much.

America Tourister luggage use to have a commercial where they throw a piece of luggage in a cage of a wild gorilla and the gorilla would throw the luggage around against the cage. That reminds me of how UPS handles packages

A guy I worked with used to make custom knives from raw stock. he got a solid block of some high grade stainless steel sent to him UPS. when the block arived, it had been crushed with enough force to distort the block. when he called to file an insurance claim, he was denied over the phone because of insufficent packaging. There claim was any pacakaging that could let damage occure, was obvously insufficent.

I have a friend who drives for DHL, who used to drive for Fedex, so I get to hear stories about the things they do to packages when they are board. They aren't much better.

Reminds me of the Ace Ventura scene where he is playing soccer with the package down the sidewalk and through the building.

I finally got my bike today from UPS, the box was beat to sh!t, the axle was sticking out of the side of the box. So I started inspecting it before I signed anything. The driver was actually pretty helpful with it, helping me to open the box and pull the bike out to inspect it. He recommended that I save all the packing material, 'just in case.' Turns out he didn't even need me to sign anything, he just helped me to check it out. The frame had some scratches on it, but they were pretty small and in some spots that weren't so obvious unless you were inspecting it. I don't think it will be worth sending back, I don't want to wait again, and I will probably scratch it up way worse once I start riding it.
