That's just a Battery Medic, not a BMS in the way you're referring to, and it cannot do either of those things, as it can only display voltages, or run a balance cycle by discharging high cells down to a certain voltage. Since battery current does not flow thru it to your system, it cannot stop the charge or discharge and so cannot perform any protection functions. It's also only 6s.
I've tested another one now and that one was ok. Cut off at 4.3v
So maybe i just broke the last one as i was removing it from the pack to test?
-i didn't want to wreck a good pack just to test the bms. So i stuck it on a week battery.
