Does anyone know of a good bike rack they can recommend with the following characteristics?

1. Mounts on the seat post, preferably with a quick release mechanism, and rated up to 25lbs.

2. A track mounting System for the bag, where the bag slides onto the track and it holds it securely. I know topeak has a rack with this type of bag mounting System.

3. A rear cargo rack with a flat bottom surface, so that I can mount the controller on the bottom of the rack. All the racks that I have been able to find have a rounded support arm on the bottom with the rack welded to it. This makes it difficult to mount the controller on the bottom.

My objective is to place the bag with the batteries on top of the rack, and mount the controller on the bottom of the rack. Any ideas or recommendations?

This is the quick release version of the delta post haste seatpost rack I use:

It's rated to 25lbs. I broke one after a few months of carrying about that much weight after going over a big bump. It was a partial break and I was able to ride home OK. After that, I bought another of the same rack because I couldn't find a seatpost rack that was rated for more weight. I lightened the load on it to about 20lbs, and it's held up fine for about six months now.

Xyster,

I cannot tell from the pics if it is flat on the bottom of the rack for mounting the controller.

It looks like this. This the bolt-on version like I have. The quick release version is otherwise identical. There's a tube running along the bottom, but there's still many ways to mount a controller on the bottom depending on how much room is between the rack and the tire.

What is the loading of this rack?
There is a very great shearing/deflecting torgue at the mount.
Just imagine if you put an 30 lbs of battery on it.

It's rated for 25lbs. I think I might have weakened my first on by using 37lbs on it for a few weeks. It cracked a few months later after going over a bump loaded with about 25lbs. The second one of the same type I bought isn't showing any signs of strain or fatigue with 20lbs, also sometimes going over the same bumps that broke the previous rack. So the 25lb rating might be accurate. 20lbs shouldn't be a problem.

I wish I could find who makes this rack:

It came on my West Marine Port Runner folding bike. It has a square tube with two bolts on each side to hold the rack portion. I just made a couple of angle brackets from some 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/8" L-shaped aluminum stock and used the same two screws on each side to hold the brackets. The controller then neatly mounts to the brackets.

I think it is good for about 20-22 pounds. Each of the two 16s2p a123 packs shown weigh about 5-1/2 pounds, so I'm not close to the limit.

I used two el-cheapo racks, as I was worried a single one would fail when I jump off or up gutters, despite my battery/box/controller weighing less than 5kgs. A single rack is rated for 9kgs, but I don't think they had jumping in mind :)

I cut one down and put two ally plates between them.

:)

I just added a bit of tube between the bottom rack clamp and the seat post clamp, as I was slowly dropping down a few mm per ride....grrr

The seatpost clamp couldn't hold me and the battery, no matter how tight I did it up.

Gary,
Great looking battery packs, are they shrink wrapped? If so where did you get it that size.

Thanks,

Ian

Yes, they are shrink wrapped, using a special rubberized material. I talked about it in this thread: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=32020#32020

The material is a bit harder to work with, but worth the trouble as it helps protect the packs.
