Anyone know what this gear bore is called?

This is the gear that I took off my 48V, 1000Watt motor that I bought at monsterscooterparts.com. The description is "SPROCKET: 8 mm 05T Chain", but what type of bore is this? I need to change over to #35 since it is hard to find much for 05T chain. I've been looking on the internet and I can't find a gear like this.

it's called a "Double D"

Ok, thanks. I took out my poor man's calipers and I measure a shade over 8 MM on the flats and 10 MM across the width. Ugh!!! Metric!!! Does this mean I'm not going to be able to get a #35 sprocket to replace this metric sprocket?

There must be some kind of "code" used for this measurement....I saw something earlier such as M12 X 10 or something to that effect.

it may have a metric bore, but i'm pretty sure that it will most likely be a #25 sprocket. #25 is most common. if it is metric it would be 8mm chain.

the bore would be described simply as 10mm shaft with 8mm across the flats. and 10mm is a reasonably common shaft diameter these days.

check with EV-Deals and TNC Scooters or one of the other scooter parts places. you might be able to find a #35 sprocket to fit your motor with the right size bore in stock.

Well, I'm learning something as I go. The sprocket I took off my motor is metric. And from what I have read on the internet, internet sites seem to only put the inside diameter of the widest part. So for me, that is 10 MM diameter. I saw that tncscooters has #25 chain that will fit mine. But I think #25 chain is considered light weight stuff and should be avoided. I've looked for several hours and I can't find a 10 MM #35 sprocket.

11 Tooth Dual-D-bore Sprocket For #25 Chain
Motor Parts - 106006
Shipping Weight: 0.4 lbs.

This 11 tooth sprocket fits most MY1020 style electric scooter motors.
This sprocket is designed for use with #25 chain.

Matt aka "recumpence" is using #25 chain for his dual ASTRO 3220 RC motor powered trike. those are rated for several KWs!

you may also find the strength of the motor shaft may also be an issue. you may find at higher torque tahat you may be stripping that Double D right off the shaft.

rick

Yes, that may be true. But I don't think there is much I can do about that. That shaft is Dual-D or "Double D" so I guess it is what it is. Sure wish there was more options though besides #25 or 8T5 chain for this crazy shaft.

you could always use your existing sprocket as an adapter by welding it to the plain, hubless sprocket of your choice.

You US guys REALLY PISS ME OFF.

Will you catchup to the rest of the world and adopt the metric system? PLEASE!!!

It is 1000000000x better.

You make my job twice as hard when working for US clients. The imperial system is so completely crap, and basically impossible to do tolerance analysis in.

It's SHITHOUSE.

Grow up.

LoL you wont get anywhere near the limits of the #25 chain with that motor anything more would be way over kill...You can though get a sprocket to fit the Unit moro shaft that is bicycle chain pitch TNC Scooters used to sell them i bought one from there myself year or so ago.

+1 to get onto the metric America.

Canada again is stuck on the fence somewhere in the middle. you get so used to converting back and forth that it becomes automatic. especially at the lumber yard. you may want 1/4" plywood, ususally it is marked as 1/4" but most often it is only approximatetly 1/4" (6.35mm) being in reality 6mm

that is unless it was imported from the US.

Umm...excuse me but I agree with you. My "ugh!! Metric!!!" comment was not because I hate the metric system, I love it. I'm upset because it is so hard to find metric parts in the U.S.

So take a chill pill.

No kidding. Going to the hardware store and looking for metric parts is a PITA. I wish we could standardize on it.
What is worse is that I have to own two sets of tools. One for metric and one for imperial. Ugg.

in canada we have a true double standard. though virtually all of the lumber we buy is metric thickness the sheet size is still 4' X 8' or is that 1220 X 2440mm? while over in the hardware aisle all of the screws and stuff is still imperial. i often ask myself who are we trying to fool.

In science the metric system seems to work better but metric is just an arbitrary number based on a line from the north pole to equator that passes though Paris.

Degrees Fahrenheit has twice the resolution as Celsius.
Lbs have twice the resolution as kilos.

To modernize the imperial system we could make it decimal and it would be up to date.
I have a tape measure that is in feet-decimal.
3.25 lbs instead of 3 lbs 3 ounces

I can work in both systems but changing the US to Metric is not something that will happen anytime soon.
And I prefer the Imperial system because it's based on human measurements.

Yes, SI is a coherent system - "Imperial" is not. That is the big difference........

Metric-schmetric.....I flow (almost seamlessly) from imperial to metric.
But I work with #s all day long. I still fight with fellow "wood working" engineers who insist on using fractions in their line drawings dimensioning. (decimal guy here)
I have never understood why the U.S. never fully comitted to the Metric sysem.
I do like to play & give aproximates in "Rods" & "Chains" whenever the situation presents.

The conversions are only a pain for those not willing to accept the diferance & educate themselves to adapt.
Cubits anyone?
