Has anyone tried attaching the pedal assist sensor to one of the idler pulleys on a trike? I have TerraCycle chain idlers and they are exactly the same diameter as the plate with the magnets, I'm thinking I could bolt the magnetic plate on to the idler pulley using it's existing bolt holes, then mount the sensor next to it. For me this would be much easier than doing the bottom bracket placement (plus there is no room for the magnetic plate there). Would appreciate others experience or thoughts on this placement.

You can get PAS sensors that don't require dismantling the BB. The are split so can be fitted in a few minutes.

I'm sure your idea would work through.

Your idler probably spins faster than the crank, so that probably will throw off the cadence that's set in your controller. Some controllers allow you to input the number of magnets on the disk, so you might find a disk with less magnets (maybe take some out) and put in a higher number to make that fit better. If you pull out magnets, the spacing probably needs to be even.
