First post, newb and not a very handy person!

I have a cheap DIY ebit kit I bought from Amazon.
Here is the KIT: https://www.amazon.com/Aosom-Electric-Battery-Powered-Conversion/dp/B00GIXZKP8

Had a bike store put it on a donor bike for me and create a sla battery (4 12v 12ah in series) pack for me. Came out great, super fun bike.

After about 4 months the thumb trigger type throttle started to be hit ormiss unresponsive, eventually completely doesn't work any more. Power indicator lights work, on off work, but no throttle propulsion.

I disassembled the throttle and found (what I think is the problem). Firsts of all a really cheap throttle :) A few wires that were poorly soldered seem to have broke off. I have a pic of my findings,

Here is a pic, the three wires on the left circled, were connected toward the small red boxed area in the image. One or two were broken, i broke the last one

So at this point I looked around ebay and I think I found the same kind of throttle,

I will post a few more pics of my broken first,

Here is a link to the ebay potential replacement, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ebike-Thumb...168316?hash=item1ec28ef7bc:g:MnIAAOSwhlZYuGaF

My main question due to lack of experience, is can I use the black connectors that currently connect the broken trigger and controller or do I have to splice wires somehow. Second, what are these connectors called, where can I get them?? Again sorry I am a total newb.

Here are the connectors I talk about, first the one from the currently broken throttle: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7dsae087k4awch5/2017-03-05 15.18.25.jpg?dl=0

The female end is from the throttle, the mail end is from the controller, here is a few more pics.

So, to get to the point,

1) I think I found a good throttle replacement, what do you think?
2) How to I attach this potential replacement so I can use my existing connector from the controller. Can I reuse the connectors? Buy them? Splice??

Thanks for your help,
mikeyuf

**** EDIT **** I was looking around tonight, found what I think is the exact one, with the same connector even, any ideas on where I can get this without ordering from alibaba?

mikeyuf,

I am not an expert, but, it looks like the part the experts call the "speed controller" broke off completely. I had one that broke off and I just glued it back on.

These throttles are all the same. What ever throttle you order, I advise you to keep your connector(s). My $12.00 ebay throttle came with different connectors. I just has to rewire it. Keep your old throttle handy so you can figure out the wiring if the colors/wires do not match.

On your next throttle, try to let it up easy. I just let mine go and it snapped back hard. Had to replace a few my first few years. Here is another common problem. A loose magnet.

This happened about 15,000.00 mile ago and it is still working fine. Super glue works great

Good luck!

6 pin throttle. Currie used to use what seems like that plug. I'm not finding it as a replacement part. Here's a pin out to compare.

The ebay throttle looks like what you already have. It comes with six wires soldered to pins. You take the old pins out of your old connector and insert the new ones. Press the retainer on the pin properly and they slide out.

The Alibaba one has a connector, but the wires are a different order, so you would have to pull out the pins and find the right order. Might as well get the ebay one. Your challenge will be determining if the new throttle uses the same color wires as the old ones. Can't always count on that.

I'm reasonably certain though that they are the same colors. You broke off the three wires to the magnetic sensor. Were they white, red, and black like what the seller says? If you want to be sure, take a meter and measure +5 volts on the red/black. Seller also says green is 48 volts. So verify your green/black is +48V. You get that, you can be pretty certain everything will match. Seller says he gives instructions so you won't fry your ebike. It's likely similar checks.

Buy a $10 voltmeter if you dob;t have one and learn how to use it.

Thank you all for your replies. I have ordered (2) ebay throttles that I posted. Better safe then sorry next time.

I will try to take some pics when they come in.

Thank you for all the replies, great info. I do have a multimeter so I will check voltage.

One quick questions, anyone have a youtube movie or website showing how to remove soldered pins from an adapter like I have and re-insert different ones
:D .

**EDIT** I guess I am looking for some good google search terms to try and figure out the connectors and the pins that go with them. Appreciate all the help!

I received a copy of instructions from the ebay seller, so I can try and get started on figuring out the correct pairings from my broken throttle...

The variable 3 wires will be twisted together with the GREEN voltage read wire...(Red,Black,White is your variable wires) and GREEN is for power display..
Black is Ground- throttle/Derailer - normally goes to the Black or if there is no Black then some controllers use a blue wire as ground on your controller coming out for the throttle/Derailer,only use the blue if there is no black..
Red goes to the wire reading between 4-5 volts, normally the red on the throttle/derailer.
White is your variable speed,,it varies 0-5 volts as you twist the throttle and it normally connects to the Green or Blue wire coming from the throttle/derailer which if tested you would see it go 0-5 volts as you twist the throttle..
Green reads voltage (24v-48v depending on which one you bought) and normally goes to the Red wire on the indicator off the controller but also can be combined with the thumb throttles Yellow wire if you desire,it works either way..
Now as far as the on/off yellow and brown wires they go to the controllers wires that cut off the controllers power..Most controllers have a Power Locks connector with a blue and red wire..Thumb throttle Brown wire goes to constant voltage of the controller which normally is the red of the power locks connector on the controller which leaves the Yellow (and possibly the green combined) which should go to the controllers power locks Blue wire..
If for some reason the lights stay on when the button is off you need to swap the yellow and brown wires around..
Questions, just call but have a multimeter handy

I opened one of my ebay throttles plastic case, exact same wiring and coloring, so I think I am good.

Going to butt connect it to corresponding wires on the old throttles connector.

Will let you know how it goes.

Welp, after my first soldering and heat shrinking attempt all 6 wires, color to color I am back in business, works great! The throttle was identically wired, so nice and easy.

Thanks

You might want to consider the Domino throttle whenever you have extra money. It's pricey, but fully legit. There's nothing worse than a badass expensive electric bicycle controlled by a cheap $2 plastic chinese throttle...this is the situation I myself faced for far too long now I have a Domino.
