Hi all, I am a good "traditional" bike mechanic, and I can work my way around electronics, but the combination of the two still baffles me.

Now, I have this very generic and mafunctioning bike I wish to rapair:

It has this Bafang rear wheel motor

Dashboard turns on and displays no error codes; speed is reported correctly, and walk assist mode works as intended, I figured it's a fault in the pedal sensor, so I pulled out this thing from the bottom bracket

Now... I have three problems:
- How can I assess this is part is actually faulty? Can I feed the controller a fake signal to see if the motor engages? I think about feeding pin 3 with something like 2.7 V and a PWM signal on pin 2?
- Should this part be faulty: how can I replace it? Searching for the same part ID on the internets gave no results

Thanks!

see here:

The sensor looks like a quite generic BB sensor that is sold with various brandings, but of course you have to check the width and the supply voltage.

With "BBTS1SD" you can find this page:

This is great and I will surely look into this. Maybe rewrite an ESP32 version, I have a few of those boards around.
But my sensor does not have a CANBUS plug, it has a round 6 pin, the one you already described here.... is it still a canbus attachment?
