The "technology" is pre-WW2.

But it works well. There is no screen in front of the cone/rim and that is the beauty of it. It is a separate thing and not attached.
What happens is that you get a cushion of still air in front of your face so no wind chill and at the same time no fogging since it is open. Only drawback is your looks

and that it does not stop snow from entering your eyes. But for really cold weather without snowfall it is the best.
