what is the best quick release system hold down the battery if your bag doesn't have any? I have a perfect case and some nylon cord which is really strong but every time it takes ages to tie up very taught and same to untie. what kind of quick release system can I get to fasten the cord into place or what kind of ties can be bought for this type of thing?

This is what I use:

Not really quick release but quick enough for me. You can get zip ties that quick release. Although those aren't as strong as a normal zip tie.

I used small ammo cans mounted as panniers. They can hold 3 DeWalts each. They leave the top of the rack free for cargo, and are low enough not to disrupt the bike's balance. Also watertight.

definitely all great ways to do it,I actually bent an old PC case into shape so it holds the battery really well with some foam as well, and I have to clamp it down to the rack, have to find a way to fasten the strings easily, velcro etc would be okay, I reckon I'm going to have to make some bars going through hoops at the end of the rope in a T shape and to slide some hoops across them when I tie them down to the rack, it's the only thing I can think of.

I used velcro and some 1 inch wide nylon braided straps. Stuck the velcro on the straps with Gorilla glue! The batteries never came close to coming loose. And I hit a lot of bumps going over 20mph. You can really pull them down tight and it takes just a second to remove them.

I use bungee cords purchased from the 99 cent store, work perfectly and extremely durable. Velcro seems like a really great idea too.

I'm thinking of just permanently glueing my duct-tape battery into a 14" long by 7 1/2" diameter PVC pipe.

Rivet a baggage handle to the outside.

Drill holes in one end cap for a charger plug ( I bought a radio shack panel mounted three hole XLR connector ), an on/off key, and main power leads (use a grommet and lots of silicone glue here ). Make sure the fuse holder is on the outside on the main power, and just glue it all shut.

I can use one or two velcro straps to secure it to my rear rack. Carry it in by the handle to recharge it.

Paint it up, stick a fork in it and call it done. Maybe put a label on it so someone doesn't freak and call it a pipeb_mb.

a square inside a circle? you could call your battery morbus cyclometricus:)

You managed to send me on a half hour search of what that means. Took five seconds to find, and another 29:55 to read. :?

I'd congratulate you, but I'm not happy about this.
