Looks like I may have found a proper bike:
First time I see this brand, Google's got next to nothing on it. Per the components on it, it's obviously a fairly good bike. At least it definitely didn't come out of a department store. It's probably about 15-20 years old. Some are not stock though, I see the frame says MTB-18, but there's 7 cogs on the freewheel. I was amused by the biopace chainrings, may be tempted to keep'em. It's weight is surprising considering it's old school steel with no Cro-Mo or 531 sticker that I could make out, possibly butted tubes. There's also some fairly nice lugwork. The geometry is pretty interesting, old school mtb's tend to come either from BMX or road schools, and this one looks like an overbuilt road/touring bike thing, should be super comfortable to ride around on. It also has outstandingly long chainstays, so my heels shouldn't hit the junk I'll haul around on the back rack. Also there's ~7 cm's width to fit tires front and rear, including at the chainstay where then tend to be made tighter.
So I may have a winner, but I'll have to ride it around as-is for a while to know for sure. So far it's looking mighty good.
