Just got a Bionx PL-350 last week and on flat roads going at a constant speed I can feel the motor surge on and off during my trip. Are you supposed to feel it surge? I thought it would be smoother. Just to test, I got up to speed and then set the assistance to 0 (off) and then pumped the throttle on and off and got the same surge which you would expect.

Is there anyone else out there that feels the same surge during normal crusing that feels similar to pumping the throttle? The surge happens approx. every 5-10 seconds. I just wanted to check with someone before I start fiddling with codes 0008, 0007 and 1234. Anyone know the "smooth my ride" code? This all happens at any speed and any assist level. Maybe this is normal and I am just over reacting, but I want to know if anyone else notices when the motor switches from assist and off again during constant speed.

PS. When messing with code 0008 there is a second step that is set to 10 km/h by default with the letter "b" below it. Anyone know what this is all about?

Thanks in advance!

Last Tuesday, I had a short test ride on P250, a low power than PL350.
I used pedal-assisted mode. I did not notice any power surge at steady speed. .
The pedalling seemed a bit heavier than an non-ebike at initial few km/h. Then it felt lighter when the motor started assisting.

The hub motor is brushless and gearless. The controller (the power electronic and FETs) is housed inside the hub motor which is relatively difficult to repair.

Don't think the power surge in your PL350 is normal. The power surge could be caused by a faulty controller in the hub motor and /or a faulty BMS of the Li Battery Pack. Take it back to the supplier if it is under warrantry.

I test rode a PL350, and it definitely felt smooth. On level 4, the assist makes the bike feel light as air and it's nice that it rides just like a bike should.

Thanks for the feedback, I guess if I am not supposed to be able to feel the motor kick in and out (slight knock) while crusing at a constant speed I'll take it back to my dealer and see what's up.
