Ok I've decided on the Bionx system. I want to pedal and get excercise but have some help. Can anyone recommend a dealer in the US? Maybe in California?

You might try Electric Cyclery in Laguna Beach. However, I haven't dealt with them other than to request information.

Well I finally decided on Bionx but nobody has them in stock.. Places want $500.00 down and won't give me a time it will ship. One place told me they took an order the first of July and still don't know when it will ship. If their product is as bad as their service maybe I should look for another manufacturer. Does anyone know someone who has them in stock?

Chill out. Fill your pockets with cash and hike over to your favorite dealer. See if you can bargain for lower price. Pay full amount of order. Now wait as many months as it takes. You should have electric bike going by next summer. You will be happy. I got Bionx PL350 and love it. Have had no problems.

There has been a big demand for systems of all brands this summer. I waited 3 weeks for my system in June thats just the way it is :wink: Blessings, Snow Crow

I found a Bionx kit and should get it in a couple days. Thanks for the help. Now my question is that I have a 9 speed Shimano freewheel and they are shipping it with Suntour and wnat to know if will the shimano will work with the Suntour cassette. The salesman said it would BUT after all he is a salesman and wants to sell the kit. I have 9 speed ultragra STI on the bike with a drop bar and really don't want to go to a cheaper shifter. Also another thing not quite so important but I would like to know if anyone has hooked up a BOB trailer with the axle on a Bionx hub?

This salesman was right this time.

Other than the freewheel, you may need a new chain because your existing 9-speed cassette may not have a large cog as the new freewheel does. You need to compare the 2 largest cogs. If you need a new chain, you may need a longer cage derailleur to take up the extra chain. Lastly, if you are good at tuning the derailleur, you may be able to keep the STI shifter because it is 9-speed. The Suntour freewheel can be 7 or 8-speed only. I bet you need to use a Bar End shifter and use the friction mode only or get an 8-speed STI shifter. The newer BE's index mode will not work with the 7 or 8-speed cog set unless it is one of the old old Bar End shifters. Don't forget the correct shift cable and housing.

It is a bit tricky to attach the Bionx brake sensor on the STI so be patient. Watch all the installation videos on Youtube may help.

I was told they do have a 9 speed freewheel and I do have a long XTR Rapid Rise derailleur and chain so that shouldn't be a problem. I was wondering about the brake sensor but I watched the video today and think I can handle that. I'm thinking I could set the adjustment screws on the derailleur to only go to 8 cogs instead of 9. I could live with that since I wouldn't need a really low gear now.

Suntour? You mean Sun Race? The Bionx hub can take 7,8 or 9 speed freewheel so you really don't have to do any adjusting at all at the derailleur part. Just get a 9 speed freewheel if you've got a 9 speed shifter.

And yes, it works with a Shimano SIS system (Rapid Fire, STI or SRAM X series), but you might need to accept a certain compromise in the shifting crispness of your gears. It's not so bad on my SRAM X.9 (just 1 gear that keeps miss engaging regardless of how much I or the bike shop tried to adjust it). I heard it's a little worse on the Shimano, but this is just hearsay, though my dealer sells a lot of BIONX but only to bikes that are equipped with SRAM stuff. Also, you will need to get a new 9 speed chain, regardless if your current one is worn out or not. We find that it makes gear shifting better with a new chain.

Other than that, everything should drop into places quite easily..

My Bionx system was delivered about 3:00 and I started to put it together very carefully. At 5:00 I started out on a 13 mile ride. Beautiful, Fantastic, Knarly Way KOOOOOOOOOL!!! I really like this system. Can you tell?? I hope I still feel this way in a year to justify the cost but I think so. Now I can go to the store and not have to worry about the weight of the Everything went right together and I didn't have to do anything to the shifter or derailleur. The only problem is the cable going to the brakes to use the braking energy to put back in the battery is too short. I did it manually and really didn't like it because it slows too much. I don't think I would use it anyway. I'm going to do a 30 miler tomorrow to test the battery and see how many miles I can get. I can still get a workout in and then when I get tired I still don't have to work to get up the hill back home.
