Bottom Bracket Maintenance - Help Please

It was def bent. If bearings are not destroyed and everything is tight but your pedals aren't on the same plane anymore then you either have bent pedals, cranks, or spindle.

Do I understand correctly that you formed your own square taper on the spindle end? If so, it could easily allow some ball-and-socket type movement because the fit is no longer conformal. That's my guess as to what happened.

Yes, and it was a challenge to get a nice fit using hand tools! I got better on this second one, first try.

But nah, evidence points to the contrary imo. No slop between arm and spindle before or after. No removal/reinstall or retighten of arm inbetween bending and rebending.

I remember that earlier runs of the extra long BBs sold by Sickbikeparts.com had problems with warping that occurred during the hardening step. Perhaps the manufacturer skipped that step in this case.
