You know how sites can take an age to load and be full of adverts and pop-ups and even malware, to the point where they are just not worth visiting?
Well this is one of my 'Hobbies' about fixing all that.

1st stop is uBlock Origin:
GitHub - gorhill/uBlock: uBlock Origin - An efficient blocker for Chromium and Firefox. Fast and lean.

Or for most people; download the extension for Google Chrome or Bing here:
uBlock Origin - Chrome Web Store

This, after research and testing, is the most 'light weight' effective, easy to use, well maintained Ad Blocker on Earth.

With 'all ads and BS' not even leaving their servers data use drops and speeds pick up a lot!

Clicking on the icon (top right) brings up an easy to understand, logical menu of choices with lots of options, from simply switching it of for a particular site to options for beginners to more advanced users, with clickable 'WhatTF is this!?' icons.

Best of all: If something is irritating you on a site, simply right clicking on it till you get a red window around the offending bit allows you to easily create a personal rule and 'Poof!' it's gone forever!

All those damn YouTube ads btw: Gone!
(Sometimes Google comes up with a 'counter punch', but withing hours; a restart of your browser and it's fixed)

Do NB that Google thinks 69ing a rabid skunk daily is preferable to uBlock's existence! :D
They are actively trying to 'shut them down' on Chrome at least, if not everywhere!
So an alternate browser is a better working, future proof alternative IMHO.
(I use Firefox as comes with the FREE 'Just Wucking Furks!' and faster! Linux Mint., with some tweaks (write caching for one))

If you want to further tweak out Youtube's for eg: 'Suggestions' over the ending of the video you're trying to watch and Auto Starting of multiple (Silent Pop Under etc) videos; Enhancer for YouTube:
Enhancer for YouTube™

For more privacy, as in; no more million ads for, for eg: refrigerators because you looked once, I also run:
Privacy Badger

There's more if anyone's interested?
But that covers 90% / The Basics. For free...

The world would change if people didn't make money off of advertising on the Internet.

And that's just fine with me.

Been using Brave browser since 2017. Ad blocking and privacy features are built in.
Best Chrome fork out there.. !

Didn't Chrome break all ad blockers last year? i think they did.

Haven't tried it but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the same filters are used.

There was talk and maybe some of their BS is now getting through, but these are working in my Windows 11 based (what) gaming machine; Chrome and Bing.

Firefox on Android too.

Brave is as effective for ad blocking as ublock and has lower CPU consumption because it can stop the ad at a lower level than a plugin can.

Before all this, i was using chrome + ublock origin, however, on occasion the plugin would cause the browser to freeze or use 100% of CPU.. as if someone were attacking it. Same with firefox.

Haven't had these issues with Brave at all.

Mozilla has indicated in recent years that it's not interested in Firefox very much ( they're 'pivoting to AI' ). Now that they lost 80% of their income from their google search engine bribes ( now illegal ), i wonder what future the browser has.

OK... I'll be brave and give it a try! :D

I went and had a good look.
You are correct that Google has done a really 'good' job of ucking things fup for uBlock Origin etc.
But not for Firefox!

IP address filtering: In version 1.60, uBO introduced the ability to block network requests based on their IP addresses. This is achieved by fetching the DNS records for a specific URL and filtering according to the IPs found. Full support is available for Firefox-based browsers, while Chromium-based browsers can only filter when an IP address is directly used in the URL instead of a hostname.

It seems there is some benefit to running uBlock on Brave:
I'll give it a whirl and see what's what.
That's not good news about Firefox.

What OS do you run neptronix?

Hm.. that seems marginally helpful.. not enough for me to add a plugin into brave ( extremely rare to see an ad ).

I use either Kubuntu 24.04 or Windows 10 at any given time.

Based on your recommendation I have downloaded Brave. There are very few people I trust. Take it as a compliment ;)

I'm using both Brave and Firefox. I find that YouTube video playback seems to be a problem. It doesn't buffer more than about 30 seconds or a minute worth, and then it just stops and refuses to buffer any more data. It might be my ad blockers, or it might be because I'm using a VPN. Sometimes playing the video as an embed works with the problem I described.

VPN is most likely the reason.
I've had no issues with youtube playback brave on android/linux/windows except during the first year of it's release.

I havent tried Brave yet, but no issues on Firefox+uBlock Origin.
So ye; the VPN.

Are you running uBlock? The stock settings dont cause issues, but if you mess with them..?
