making a trike with (5.5*4)22 gear ratio with wheel dia .5m .calculated speed is 20kmph :) TOTAL weight will be approx 80kg 8)
components.
1)270kv 50-66D turnigy motor (yellow one). :)

2)hobbyking 70-80a esc (no CC :oops: )
changed the heat sink of ESC with PC processor heat sink with fan,will also be adding caps.

Sounds like you have a good plan, I like the idea of the processor heatsink & fan, how do you plan on protecting it from weather?

Curious to see more of the trike too! :)
 
sounds like u got everything under control! what battery are u going to use? how do you plan to make a throttle?

i am gonna use 6s 2650mah zippy lipo.yes i know range will not be much but i can increase cells in parallel anytime.

and the weight is total weight with rider.
for throttle control i will be using simple servo tester from HK (6$) using a clutch wire.

Finished installing the heatsink (i tried not to spill the thermal grease into FETs) and tested the ESC .runs good.

the fan is 5-12vdc and max current is 420ma.the BEC of ESC is 5V-3A .so i was thinking of connecting it DIRECTLY to the ESC. so whenever ESC is ON fan will be running.
my 2 questions
1)is it safe to hookup ESC with fan.
2)the trike frame is welded but i am not yet sure whether make it a front drive or rear drive. :?
-the problem with front drive is that mounting everything on the handle and the U-fork.
-the problem with rear drive is that i don't want to use differential n all.and if only one rear wheel is powered it's gonna be hard to steer or turn in a particular direction(depends on which side wheel is powered). :roll:
any suggestions friends.
 
I would go with fwd. my reasoning is that it would be easier to turn the trike at higher speed that way. however you well accelerate much slower. so the choice is up to you. do you need controller or speed. I am not an expert so take this with a grain of salt.

fwd is 1st choice for me too but it seems hard to mount everything on the U-fork . :(
 
Swiss post takes a fortune to deliver Batteries and whenever batteries are included they send it through swiss post .most people complaint about the mishandeling too :cry: .hoping my batteries are not dead on arrival.

That is a very small battery for the motor in this application. Not just becuase of the range (which will be very short), but because of the number of amps that the motor is going to try and pull from it.
I saw over 100Amps @ 6s, which is over 35C for this battery. :shock:

I would recommend a bigger motor maybe 6374, and battery, as you are asking a lot from both of these at the moment.

the motor i am using can take max 70amps ,the esc can deliver max 80 amps ,battery can deliver 53amps continuous and 80 amps burst.i am not going to run these things at full load all the time,moreover i have done gearing to a limit so that components don't smell bad :mrgreen: .

you are right about the battery and motor,but i just want to see if this works .just going to push the limits of components . $$$ is also a major factor :oops:

what do you have to say about my ESC because almost every member recommends CC esc's(just because they are best) ,i have done everything improvable on my cheapo ESC (added heatsink ,low esr caps,short wires to battery ,fan cooling )
so that it can at least do something for me :cry:

that graph you posted was really helpful so i guess i have enough power even without pushing the limits of components. :D
you said you have seen 120amps on your 50-65D270kv motor ,does that mean my esc (70-80amps) will eventually burn :?
i will install a fan on the motor too as per your suggestions.
 
I am sure the CC ESC's are great. Never had one myself. But I am doing the same as you, seeing how cheap and simple I can get away with. So far I have burnt the motor on 6s, by going full throttle up a hill. The ESC was fine and I made no mods to it, but in my case I do not use the motor at low speeds, only once I have pedalled up to speed a bit. No idea what speed, I just jump on pedal a bit, the hit the "go" button or throttle.

This is the controller I was using: $37 - Turnigy Brushless ESC 85A w/ 5A SBEC.

As for that graph/table. Just remember that is a power estimate of what is required to maintain a speed, but not to accelerate.
The motor will pull what ever power the voltage/throttle allows it to. So you will see much higher numbers during acceleration.
Will your controller blow. Quite possibly if you go full throttle from stand still, as these controllers are not really designed for that. That is probably why so many people argue for the CC ESC, since htey are the higher quliaty ones, that can take a bit more of a pounding. These cheap ones are really only designed for light loads. But I was willing to blow one up to find out if it works for my application.

What is you drive system from motor to wheel. Sounds like you are doing a two stage reduction of some sort.
Does that mean you are going to try and accelerate from stand still with this tiny motor and ESC?

Is changing FETs on esc with higher rating fets is a feasible option i am planning to try that on my esc. :shock:
