Building a 60mph electric motorcycle on a 26" bicycle frame

Even on ice you guys drive like 120kmh. Maybe a bit less when the mounties are out.
yeah, no one wants to hit a horse at 120. at 115 you will probably live.

Keep 6 for the OPP then, those are the real crazies.

Well whatever gives you an adrenaline rush, whenever I see 60mph and bicycle in the same sentence I just shake my head and ask whats the point, just buy a motorcycle. There must be more to it. I think if a cop sees you doing 60mph on a bicycle, its ticket time, or you even get into an accident with anyone else its lawsuit time, if you survive.

I definitely see 60mph street ride and 60 mph track ride as apples and oranges.

Dressed for it, and not worried about a dumb ass in a car crossing me, I was very willing to hang it all out there on the track with very sketchy everything. My tires lasted one afternoon, worn out on the inside with the cords all cooked, while looking new outside. All my friends and family say I'm happiest when pissing my pants. That doesn't mean I recommend it for you though.

But a whole different thing to build to haul ass on the street daily. Again, look at how John has done it. Lengthen, and don't carry battery weight shitty. Not doing track speed cornering, the tires will last good enough. Ideally, have some suspension so the potholes bend the rims less. Use a stiff frame so you don't get the tank slappers from tiny bumps. Street riding fast enough, you aren't forced onto the crappy edge of the road. That's a definite advantage. Just because your bike can do 60 mph does not mean you have to always ride 60 mph.

John is right about not hitting the potholes. When I hit one that fast, I wasn't dressed right. My eyes teared up, and I never saw that manhole cover. No suspension, it caught me by surprise an I did a 45 mph rear wheel wheelie. You know, back wheel off the ground, and by the time it came down I had a good wobble going. An unskilled rider would have dumped it. FWIW, that bike was light in the tail since it was a front hubmotor. So I was always doing stoppies on it. Build your bike weighted perfect, mine wasn't.

Cops are another issue. John is legal where he rides. I'm not when above 30 mph. So I stick to about 35 mph max speed on my street rides. Cops give my cargo bike a look because it's funky, but never look at me like I'm illegal since I'm not.

If you want a useful 60mph, then you really need an ebike capable of 70. For years my bikes were topping out at 60, but I almost never rode more than 50mph. Now that I have an ebike that I've had up to 103mph, my speed hasn't changed much, though at most CA resets my Max Speed is in the 100-110kph range (low 60's mph). That's because there are a few short stretches on my usual routes with perfect surfaces and no entrances from either side, so I'm comfortable laying on the throttle for a few seconds. I ride whatever speed the conditions and my comfort level dictate. Doing videos I'm always pushed well past my comfort zone. That's the main reason I make so few.

What's the highest speed you've ever fallen off of a bike

Does that include a motor bike  Been there on all types. :(

I want to build a super fast ultralight 700c ebike. Smooth roads only. Full on, w/ friction brakes, light 25mm road tires /clincher wheels, tt clip on bar set up. Max 40 pounds.

And yes, I am wanting 60 PLUS. Seriously. Will fatten up the tires only if I absolutely have to. Just want to see how it will climb. Will keep it in the garage on windy days for certain.

i built such a bike on a steel single speed with oetoma motor and controller and 48v10a lithium battery my bike weighs 48 lbs and does 35 mph max with a range around 25 mi

You could at least learn to spell Aotema.

Cool big crank. I used to run my Aotema front hub with a 58 tooth. Able to pedal hard to 35 mph in 14 rear gear.

How you remain light, and carry enough battery to reach 60 mph beats me. Sure, 5 ah of 100v lico might do it, but it will run out in just a few miles.
